Imagery and tone comparison between “Farewell to Manzanar” and “Should You Trust the News”.
Louis Zamperini was captured by Japanese. He was tortured and beaten and was a relatable story to Manzanar because of how they were caputured and made to work and wasn’t treated fairly also like the Japanease. Farewell to Manzanar reminded me of this because how they were both captured because of who they were.
One way the authors reveals how the feel about their expeariance is through the use of imagery. First In the novel, “Farewell to Manzanar” by Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston And James D. Houston and the article, “Can you Trust the News” by Lauren Tarshis, the two authors use of imagery are similar. For example, both make you revert back to a time in your life when something similiar has happened to you. But they’re diffrerent in which one relates to a bad time in your life like. How if you’ve been lied to compared to just relating to scenery in manzanar. For example in the article it states that “imagine someone lying about the fact that youve robbed a bank it coukd ruin your career or make you lose you job” And in Manzanar it say Things like “we watched until the boats became of tiny white gulls on the horizan” and also “A gust of wind rushed through the orchard

To Countinue in the article the author wants to give you a reason to look back in your life at a time when something has happened to you. This imagery can depict many different things and often enhances the reader’s ability to picture what is occurring in a literary work, and therefore is more able to connect to the writing. An example of imagery used to enhance the quality of a story can be found in Leyvik Yehoash’s poem “Lynching.” In this poem, the imagery that repeatably appears is related to the body of the person who was lynched, and the various ways to describe different parts of his person. The repetition of these description serves as a textual echo, and the variation in description over the course of the poem helps to portray the events that occurred and their importance from the author to the reader. Most people can deal with difficulties, but their reactions to the hardships are different. Only some people can manage their problems. We should try to manage our behaviors in tough situations. If we can deal with our situations, we can overcome difficulties easily. The book Farewell to Manzanar by Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston and James D. Houston explores many subjects and ideas, including our universal concept of power, our theme of justice, and events happening during World War II. Throughout the book I learned many things I did not know that have really benefited towords the way I think. From reading this book I have gained a new knowledge of this time in history and what it might mean to teenage Americans today.
I will compare the emotions that both artworks send to the viewers when they first look at them. When I look at the portray 1, I fell sadness. That’s what the artwork is conveying to me. No one in the picture is happy or smiling. Everyone is sad, upset or indifferent. When we look at their gaze, the father is looking traight away, with tired eyes. His gesture shows that he doesn’t want to hear what his wife has to say and is asking her to stop. The mother’s gaze is on something in front of them. Her eyes are big and she seems to be giving more attention to things than the man. She seems sad sad to be spoken that way. On portray 2, the atmosphere is visibly different. The man and woman have a little smile on their faces and the kids are playing next to them. The people in the portray don’t look indifferent to each other or sad like in the other portray, they look pleased and caring. The man and women gaze are relaxed and they seem to be enjoying themselves. They are looking straight away in a pose as if someone is taking a picture of them. The kids gaze are in their
In “The Tell Tale Heart,” one of the many themes could be that guilt will catch up with you. Although this could be a fitting theme, the more suitable and appropriate theme is about escaping reality and convincing yourself that there is a way out of anything, as this is describing not only the main conflict between the narrator and the old man's eye, but the other conflicts as well. “In an instant I dragged him to the floor, and pulled the heavy bed over him” (Poe 6). This theme is supported throughout the story by all of the conflicts. While this theme may apply to Edgar Allan Poe's “The Tell Tale Heart,” it is not shared with the short story “An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge” by Ambrose Bierce, in which they are very similar. Some may think that in “An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge,” Ambrose Bierce use imagery to set up the problem. While this is a good claim, there are some problems with this, however. In “An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge” by Ambrose Bierce, there is a fair amount of imagery. Although this short story does contain imagery, it is not used to create the problem. In the beginning, the conflict and problem of the story is already happening. The scenes that involve imagery are moreso used to create suspense as well as build a mood, while this craft is used in the scenes that are filled with action and very exciting. For example, when Farquhar is falling into the river, the author uses imagery to give the reader a picture in their mind and describe him falling, which makes it more suspenseful. “As Peyton Farquhar fell straight downward through the bridge he lost consciousness and was one already dead” (Bierce 3). Finally we learned a lot, there are differences and similarities of the two authors, but we must remember that everyone has the opportunity to escape from the cave of shadows and see the real world and smell the freedom. Never be afraid of nothing, the way to freedom lies through the diligence and the labor.
The novel, Farewell to Manzanar, by Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston, tells her family’s true story of how they struggled to not only survive, but thrive in forced detention during World War II. She was seven years old when the war started with the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1942. Her life dramatically changed when her and her family were taken from their home and sent to live at the Manzanar internment camp. Along with ten thousand other Japanese Americans, they had to adjust to their new life living behind barbed wire. Obviously, as a young child, Jeanne did not fully understand why they had to move, and she was not fully aware of the events happening outside the camp. However, in the beginning, every Japanese American had questions. They wondered why they had to leave. Now, as an adult, she recounts the three years she spent at Manzanar and shares how her family attempted to survive. The conflict of ethnicities affected Jeanne and her family’s life to a great extent.
The writer uses imagery, because he wants to let the readers into his mind. By describing the scene for the readers, makes the readers fell like they were there. Therefore, it gives us a better ability to emphasize with him.

Lisa Parker’s “Snapping Beans”, Regina Barreca’s “Nighttime Fires”, John Frederick Nims’ “Love Poem”, and John Donne’s “Song” all demonstrate excellent use of imagery in their writing. All of the authors did a very good job at illustrating how the use of imagery helps the reader understand what the author’s message is. However, some of the poems use different poetic devices and different tones. In Lisa Parker’s “Snapping Beans” and Regina Barreca’s “Nighttime Fires”, both poems display a good use of personification. However in John Donne’s “Song” and John Frederick Nims’ “Love Poem, they differ in the fact that the tone used in each poem contrasts from each other.

Tone is the attitude of a writer towards a subject, the writer’s subject can be formal, informal, sarcastic, positive, etc. Tone gives more emotion into a written piece, and is placed into a specific choice of words.
