Many Americans want to fit in with society. They want to be called normal and average. Other Americans were born to stand out. They want nothing to do with the norms of society. These unique people take their own path that they have created for themselves. Every place in the world has at least one person that dreams to stand out from the regular crowd. In small towns like Lawrence, there are not many people who stand out. Of course, everyone is different, but they still fit into the average crowd there. However, in larger cities like Lincoln or Hastings, people stand out everywhere. There are many people who dye their hair neon colors, and may have an interesting haircut to go with the notable hair color. In other cases, they have piercings and tattoos. In most rural places, there are not many people who have tattoos covering their body or piercings all over their face. A person may also stand out with what they wear. I wear the fashion trends of my school, but still wear what I like to wear. I wouldn’t describe myself as original. There are many more people that are completely distinct than I am. Sometimes, I don’t understand why they like to be different. I wish I could understand why some people like the extra attention that they attract to themselves. I believe the reason they want to stand out is because they think they have been looked-over one too many times. They want to feel appreciated and want to know that people notice them. It could be that they feel they should be known, but have no idea how to make that happen. So, they do something out of the ordinary in order to have people notice them. Another reason could be that society has done some injustice to them over their lifetime. This could make a person feel as though they owe nothing to society and break free from it. However, this could be extreme as well since many people just become lazy from this
