Why I joined Upward Bound
I originally joined Upward Bound because my older brother was in the program. I saw that he was getting a lot of academic help from this program, such as tutoring. I was beginning my freshman year, and I figured that it would be intimidating and overwhelming. Since I knew that I was typically a procrastinator, I knew that this program would help me stay on top of my school work and even get ahead. Upward Bound provided me with the extra help that I wasn’t getting from my high school.
I saw that my brother went on many college tours throughout the years, which really helped him figure out which college he wanted to attend and what he was looking to major in. I was always jealous that my brother was
I joined Avid, because I knew it would help in college.Joining AVID in high school helped prepare me for college readiness and success in life. If i hadn’t joined avid i would be walking out of high school clueless to what to do next. I believed the program would have me better prepared for life after high school. Avid provides you with everything you need to know about college, and the skills needed to succeed in it.
With Upward Bound, this can give me a proper glimpse of what to expect as I enter into college. In less than two years, I will be graduating soon with little to no knowledge on how my dream college will be like. From how to manage my classes to being financially stable for the next four years. That can be difficult, especially for someone who is going to be independent throughout their life and might go to school away from home so they will not get the financial or emotional support they need. Despite that, Upward Bound can give me a preview of what it is like to be independent.
I want to join Year Up because of the opportunity it provides to receive an education and experience in a professional computer-programming environment that I might not have received otherwise. I believe I am a good candidate for Year Up because of my ability to perform in professional and academic environments alike, as well as a strong desire to succeed in a highly technical field.
One of the main reasons I was inspired to participate was because of the benefits it provided for the students. This particular institute focused on engineering. Not only do I have a passion for reading and writing but I am fortunate enough to also be good at math and science. What I learned from the program was career exploration when
One good thing about Brockton High School is this program called Upward Bound. Upward Bound is basically a program that prepares you for college throughout your 4 years in Brockton High School. It provides support to high school students so they may complete high school, enroll in college, and successfully obtain a college degree. It is mostly for families with a low income background and students whose parents did not attend college. Upward Bound is part of the Federal TRIO Programs, which include Upward Bound, Veterans Upward Bound, Talent Search, Student Support Services, Ronald McNair Post-Baccalaureate Program, and Upward Bound Math and Science. Upward Bound helps many students
Throughout my high school, Wilson High School, various events and activities occur to encourage college. For example, in my AP English Language and Literature class, we were
My interests in the STEP programs lies within the fact that it will aid me in achieving a full ride to college. Throughout my whole life, I have been blessed with many amazing things that my parents have worked hard for. By being able to receive a full scholarships, it will be my way of thanking my parents for what they have done for me throughout my whole life. As a result, if I am not able to achieve a full ride scholarship, it would be a huge disappointment. By being apart of the program, I hope to gain knowledge about the steps required to improve my chances of going to a good college and information that will help me become a better human being. In addition, while I am there, I would like to acquire new friends that will hopefully be apart of my life in the future.
The researcher used twenty-eight (28) interview questions, and as such, could not cover the gamut of other relevant issues that influenced students and program effectiveness. Moreover, there were other unforeseen variables beyond the researcher’s control, which the researcher may not be able to grasp a comprehensive assessment of other pertinent variables that may affect the outcome of the study. Although there are eight hundred and twenty six (826) Upward Bound programs operating nationwide, many of the Upward Bound directors were not comfortable in participating in the study. The randomly selected population presents limitations in scope, as the study captured and represented two of the eight hundred twenty Upward Bound programs nationwide. Issues of time constraints in relation to meet and conduct interviews with Upward Bound directors hindered grasping some qualitative aspect of the research. Directors though compliant, could not answer some of the questions posed as it related to the new APR requirements at the time of the research was completed; and could not provide the results of their current APR report for analysis whether the stated objectives in their Upward Bound grant objectives were met or approaching the target percentage performance.
When coming to college, I realized that I would have to step out of my comfort zone in order to get involved. At Valparaiso, I am surrounded by people from different religions, cultures, and countries. At first I wasn't used to the diversity, but now I have really learned the appreciate everyone and where they come from. This has made me a better person because I am more open to new ideas and am inspired to reflect on my own life and values.
I had the glorious opportunity of interviewing both of my sisters about their college experiences. Both of them went to college. However, one went away and one commuted. My oldest sister, Robins, graduated from Canarsie High School in 2009. She got
I was a single mother with older children whom did not need so much of my attention. I continued to work to support myself and needed to find to find a college that was compatible with my work and family life. I started doing research on different colleges and university and found that the University of seemed to be most compatible with my needs since they had the distance learning program. This would ...
College students mostly travel with friends on semester breaks, so if you miss out on those trips you actually miss out on a lot. So those who have missed out on these trips have a lot of regret.
I had the ability in high school to decide what I wanted to do in college by trying out different types of classes. During my sophomore year of high school, I was able to try a beginning course that involved accounting. I was lucky enough to be able to go to high school and I took advantage of my luck to take a chance on different courses. To my surprise, my teacher ended up being a family friend and I instantly fell in love with the course. As a result, I already knew what I wanted to do in college before I was even accepted into one. The blind luck of living in the United States compared to another country benefited me significantly because I would not have been blessed with this opportunity in a less developed
A university or college is my chance to make something of myself, no one in my immediate family has graduated from college yet so I’d like for them to be proud of me for that achievement.
One thing that I learned from this event is that Delta College has an architecture and interior designing programs where they teach how to do floor layouts and decorating houses. I am interested in that, however, I did not know Delta had a program like that. A second thing that I learned is that a few of the colleges I did not know about has my major that I am interested in for a cheaper price. My major is biology
