Many people are victims of sex trafficking and this horror must be stopped for the sake of the innocent girls and women who are being taken advantage of. Trafficking is a form of modern slavery because people’s bodies are sold for the gain of others against their wills. The steps that must be taken to prevent sex trafficking involve raising political and social awareness, people working together and the prosecution of traffickers. Awareness of sex trafficking is very important because it can lead to the prevention of this modern slavery. Lack of awareness is a major reason for the existence of modern slavery because not many people know what to do about it. In the modern age, “one of the biggest impediments to anti-trafficking efforts is People need to work together just like they did to end slavery, when everyone sees this as wrong there is nothing that can stop the demise of sex trafficking. In many communities “[people] can turn on the TV now and see pimps glamorized in TV shows, music videos, and movies”(Frundt). In the communities, people see the aspects of sex trafficking as glamorous and they don’t realise that it is a type of slavery and the girls are miserable. If communities can work together to eliminate this issue, this modern slavery can be eliminated altogether because people won’t allow for it to continue in their communities. The way that sex trafficking is viewed directly affects how it exist because with communities working together to end it there will be no where for it to continue. Certain communities are accepting of this slavery and only care about protecting themselves. If communities like these can be changed, it will allow for them to mitigate the effects of sex trafficking and this will make it simpler for the officials to do their jobs. A major proponent for the end of sex trafficking believes that “trafficking starts in a community, and can be stopped by a community”(UN Chronicle). Communities influence the people in them and these communities are what allow sex trafficking to exist, but they are also what can end it. If communities work towards this goal they can brand Some governments still don’t have any laws that ban this evil and it is not good for people who suffer from it as it runs rampant in those countries. The places that need the government's help with this the most, have governments that are failing to protect them. The UN Chronicle says that the only way to end sex trafficking and give these victims the closure they deserve is the “prosecution of traffickers and protection of victims”(UN Chronicles). It is not the girls fault and if these traffickers are punished and made an example of, it could discourage others from following this dark path and this will mitigate and eventually end sex trafficking. Some countries don’t persecute the traffickers, or they do very little to punish them and this needs to change to eliminate sex trafficking. When some countries are “lagging behind with no counter-trafficking laws at all”(Jesionka), this prevents people who are held captive from getting the justice they deserve in some parts of the world. If the world worked together to eliminate this, the countries that are exploited for this trade would keep their people safer. The countries need to take on these traffickers if there is going to be any difference in this modern slavery.
