Love requires sacrifices to maintain the love for one another. You’ll do anything for the one you love. Your world should revolve around them because that’s how important they should be to you. In the story The Gift of the Magi, the couple made sacrifices for each other in the name of love, just as couples still do in real life in today’s day and age. Some may not be as big as others, but they’re sacrifices none the less. Even in the story it shows it. They didn’t have to sell their prized possessions for each other, but it wouldn’t have felt right if they didn’t get gifts for each other. Another example, not from The Gift of the Magi, but it’s a real life example. Paul Douglas Gray made many sacrifices in his life for his children and grandchildren. Throughout his life he made countless sacrifices for his family because he loved them more than anything in the world. So he did anything to keep them happy and have the best life he could give them. For example, one of the non-major sacrifices, he had to sell his prized possession. He had to sell his 1967 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, which had been handed down to him from his father, to help pay for his daughter 's college tuition. He also had a ranch which he raised them on, but had to sell his horses to pay for his other daughter’s college tuition. Also, his daughters were allergic to his dog that had been with him his whole life. So he had to give him away, even though his dog was the last thing that reminded him of his parents. So even though not all of them were that big of a sacrifice, but he still made sacrifices for his family because he loves them.
