Discrimination has been present in many forms throughout history. The hate filled acts have been performed many times throughout the years, but was seen as socially unacceptable during and after the Civil Rights Movement. Remember the Titans takes place during the Civil Rights Movement, and showed how equality between races was still being fought for in the community. Remember the Titans showed how football created unity between the white and black community, but also showed the issues the black community faced. Remember the Titans depicts many forms of hate filled discrimination because it showed physical violence, social outcasting, and protesting on the belief one race was superior to another.

Firstly, the movie showed physical violence against someone because of their race. This is portrayed when the combined teams arrived at Gettysburg College for camp. One black man puts a poster on his wall above his bed. Another white man says to take down the poster. When the black man refuses, tension rises, and a fight breaks out. If another white man had put a poster above their bed, there wouldn’t be a problem. When the black man did it, it was not accepted. The white population socially outcasted the black population when a bar refused to serve a black person. The bartender refused to have the black man in his bar, because he was black. This act outcasted and targeted the black population in a form of discrimination. The black population was targeted and outcasted when Gerry’s girlfriend Emma refused to shake Julius's hand. Emma’s refusal showed how she didn’t see the black population as equals in the community. By refusing to shake his hand, she was socially outcasting him.
