Remember the Titans is a film set in Alexandria, Virginia in 1971. At this time the first school ever was being merged with both races, black and white, and nobody was happy at all. The film completely overcomes racism and uses techniques such as dialogue and music to give a lot of emotion to the audience. In the beginning of the film, the white and black members of the team hate each other. The whites say they don’t want to “Play with any of those black animals” and the blacks don’t want to merge either because they don’t trust “your people to be honest.” One scene where we seen this clearly is when Alan and Petey are forced to learn about each other at the football camp. Coach Boone takes the team to the cemetery where the battle of Gettysburg was fought. This scene is where coach Boone gets in front of the players and says “if we don’t come together, right now, on this hallowed ground, we too will fall.” This scene is basically proving how important it is to come together and be successful as a team. One key technique is the use of a sound technique: the Titans Theme music. This is a music piece which plays throughout the whole movie at amazing scenes. The combination of this song and the dialogue from the film gives heart warming emotions in the audience as they go through the decision that the players on the football team have to make: Unite and grow as one and become a team or hate each other and stay racist and fail as a team. The next scene they decide to come together as a unit, the audience is greatly happy at least I was – Instantly the audience feels the team-mates slowly turning from a team into to family. The music is one of the most important things used in making this film. The 1960’s song “Na, na, na, na/ Hey Hey Hey/ Goodbye” is one that is heard throughout the whole film. First, when they win their first game and it’s like they are saying “Goodbye, and we are finally going far as a team and we aren't going to lose.” Finally, the last time it is played is at Gary’s funeral when it is sung as a goodbye from all of his team mates which
