The world around us is filled with numerous discourse communities. They can be found everywhere, from art shows to sports games. Each community possesses its own structure of functioning. However, every community is based upon the same fundamental appeals of ethos, pathos, and logos. I was introduced to these principals in my English 1301 class, which showed me that ethos, pathos, and logos can be used in more than just writing. It applies to everyday life and within communities that I have been a part of. My experiences working within the music industry opened up a world of experience and opportunities. The music industry is a tough community to become involved with. Everyone within it is constantly looking for credibility, ethos, to get further. My credibility was rooted within my six years of guitar lessons and three years of piano lessons. The countless lessons of guitar and piano had given me the basic knowledge of music, including learning scales, chords, reading sheet music, and music theory. Learning these skills gave me the foundation I needed to begin writing my own music. They were the building blocks to each song I wrote. Musical notation had become an alphabet for me, and my music became poetry. Over the years, my music became stronger and began to take on a greater sense of importance to me. …show more content…

He could create the emotional lyrics, while I could compose the music to correspond. Our music matured together and thus, took on a more emotional aspect, pathos, for me. We invited a few of our mutual friends to play with us and before we knew it, we became Overcast Sundays. Our band evolved into a family and we spent endless days playing in my garage.
