Traffic congestion in many of the nation’s metropolitan areas is prevalent, with the cost of congestion including lost time, wasted fuel and vehicle wear and tear topping $78 billion per year for the nation’s 437 urban areas .Antonio (2010). A key point in tackling congestion is that it is non-linear a small reduction in the number of vehicles on the road will produce a large reduction in congestion as happens for example during school holidays. This paper will also present evidence which shows that the problem of road traffic congestion cannot be preserved by improved public transport alone but that a package of measures is needed. In a small city like Windhoek, congestion is really a big issue it can affect people in different bad ways such as accident among others.
Most of the accidents are likely to occur on the roads where there are too many vehicles. Developing cities such as Windhoek which have no proper road infrastructures the number of crashes happening are just increasing every day. Car nowadays are seems to be more cheaper or it’s may be just that there is too much money circulation that is why people are buying more cars while on the hand the road infrastructure are not being expanded, as a results new driver squeezing in traffic this will promote congestion as well. Most of the jobs here in Namibia start at 8 o’clock in the morning, so from 5 o’clock to 8 what do you expect the road to be like? obviously it will be congested so one could probably spent one to three hours at a distance that was only supposed to take 20 minutes at the end of the day the person will be late at work or anywhere they were going and what will happen to the productivity of that individual, it will decline and that might just create another
