Residential childcare provides a wide range of services for people aged 12-18 years old. Many of the services that Residential Childcare provides are aimed at providing the highest standard of care for their service users, these services are derived for the individuals care plans. This includes meeting each individuals needs and taking into consideration the pace in which they develop and also their background. Residential childcare provides a service called “High Support” for young people where they have a sense of responsibility in dealing with their experiences to gain knowledge and understanding of their own behaviours and personalities. Other services that would be provided to young people would be coping strategies and life skills which would enable them to make appropriate life choices and communicate within society. After care placement, if the young people want to continue seeking help there are additional services such as Outreach programmes and Family Support. A service that is also used in Residential Childcare would be a Life Space Interview. This is where there is an attempt made to re-address low self-esteem in children and adults by attempting to build their ego back up. For example: Positive Care Ireland which provides a high quality therapeutic care service to young people in Ireland. Finally, key workers are huge service that is provided young people in Residential Childcare. Each individual will be assigned a Key Worker when they start in Residential Care. The Key Worker is solely responsible for building a relationship/ attachment with their newly arrived client in order for the client to feel safe in their own home. Organisations that would provide key workers would be Cope Foundation, Positive Care Ireland, Brothers of Charity and Bessborough.
