Empire, a nighttime drama by FOX, focuses on Empire Entertainment, a hip-hop music company, and the founder’s family as they fight for control of the company. The fight ensues when relatives learn that Lucious, the CEO of Empire Entertainment, has been diagnosed with a terminal disease. Lucious wants one of his three sons, Andre, Jamal, or Hakeem, to take over the company. Within the show’s first season, it has addressed issues such as homophobia and strong female personalities. While Empire is seemingly breaking barriers for African-Americans on television, in some ways it is only strengthening pre-existing ones, especially in the matters of gender, sexuality, and race.

Throughout Lynda Barry’s Novel “Cruddy,” it’s evident that Roberta possesses multiple identities. These identities she holds are very unique because of the different personalities and background stories each one holds. Such a contrast between each identity is apparent to the reader throughout the novel as Roberta goes on about her rough life expedition. Some of the ones Roberta possesses are controlled by herself while others are forced upon her. Despite the differences each identity holds, each one illustrates the idea that people adapt, in similarity to animals, when their environment
Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier two twelve year old girls were held in court for stabbing another twelve year old girl 19 times. What could have been the motive to stab a twelve year old friend who was so innocent? The supposed motive behind the stabbing was a character called ‘Slenderman’. The two were supposedly influenced by this character and wanted to “please” the character. Morgan and Anissa apparently had this planned since February. In court, Morgan and Anissa were tried as adults instead of juveniles despite them being only twelve. Many people believe Morgan and Anissa should have been tried as juveniles because of their lack of knowledge on what is right or wrong and because of their age. Morgan and Anissa should be tried as adults in court for stabbing a twelve year
Celie is a victim. "He start to choke me, saying you better shut up and git used to it. But I don't never git used to it." As Celie states in one of her letters to God how Pa had raped her, Celie has had to endure the pain and hardships throughout her life. “She fight, she run away. What good it do? I don't fight, I stay where I'm told. But I'm alive." Celie begins to develop as the story progresses and becomes more independent and learns her sense of self. Instead of doing what she’s told, we see her change as a woman and learn to fight for herself. Many of the characters in this book have empowered her to stand up for herself and not always do what she's told, like Sofia.
In the beginning of the novel, Octavia Butler writes; “Prodigy is, at its essence, adaptability and persistent, positive obsession. Without persistence, what remains is an enthusiasm of the moment. Without adaptability, what remains may be channeled into destructive fanaticism. Without positive obsession, there is nothing at all.” In my own words, I believe what the author is saying is a prodigy is a young person with exceptional qualities, in particular she is referring to essence, adaptability, persistent and positive obsession. A prodigy without persistence, is someone with intense enjoyment. A prodigy without adaptability, is someone who is unwilling to accept opposing points of view. A prodigy without positive obsession, is just nothing.

"I didn't say anything about the game at dinner that night! like I'd be begging my dad to come, I mean a lot of kids
The poem “Laila” from Terrain Tracks by Pervi Shah has the theme of disillusion through travel. It is an interpretation of “Layla” by Eric Clapton, who states, “What'll you do when you get lonely And nobody's waiting by your side? You've been running and hiding much too long.” The poem is written dramatically through the eyes of the main character of Laila. She is characterized as Arabic descent, as shown through her Arabic descendent name and her hair being recognized by others as a significant feature, “a black bell” that “surrounds her”. By using the metaphor or a black bell, this shows how the hair calls a great amount of attention and is easily detected. Shah insists that Laila’s hair is beautiful, as it is similar to a “rose”. The author places other body parts, such as her cheeks and neck in lower case, in order to emphasize that people only really see her black strands and thus associate her with a culture. The meaning of “Laila” was carefully chosen by Shah. Her name means “night beauty” and usually refers to a darker complexion and dark hair.
The Disney series “Andi Mack” has a openly gay character. That character is Cyrus Goodman (portrayed by Joshua Ryan). Cyrus has a crush on Jonah Beck. However, Andi and Jonah like each other. Holy shit, this is pretty dramatic for a kids show.
Celia Foote, being one of the few outcasts who happen to have white skin, has not necessarily been hesitant when it comes to decision making, even though she seems to care so much of what others may think of her. She has ended up embarrassing herself while attempting to make the correct decision, but always seems to follow through on the risks she has decided to take. While Kathryn Stockett presents most characters to have grown through their strengths by presenting their inner thoughts, Celia is shown to learn and grow through her desperation; which is shown through her reactions and actions.
