INTRODUCTION
Education is the process of bringing desirable change into the behavior of human beings. In English the term “Education” has been derived from two Latin words Educare (Educere) and Educatum. “Educare” means to train or mould. It again means to bring up or to lead out or to draw out, propulsion from inward to outward. The term “Educatum” denotes the act of teaching. It throws light on the principles and practice of teaching. The term Educare or Educere mainly indicates development of the latent faculties of the child. But child does not know these possibilities. It is the educator or the teacher who can know these and take appropriate methods to develop those powers (Hirsch, E. D. Jr. 1987).
History of education is essential the history of mankind. It consider not only what is taught at a particular society at a particular time, but also based on how, where, by whom, to whom, why and what belief. With the influence of the globalization, the social problems tend to be common problems in the world. In reality, we do not make this idea come true with our present situation in Chinese education. Furthermore, with the imperfect education system in China, there are fewer qualified and humanized Chinese kindergartens. The Classical Greece era dates back to 500-323 BCE and was considered to be the period of maturity, discovery and achievement. During this era Athens was governed by a democratic government, there came a more rational approach to exploring and explaining the world and the Greeks took art to a more realistic and humanistic approach for the first time. (Sakoulas, 2002) During the Classical era the culture was based on a blend of their old culture and the new. The old is based upon religious beliefs while the new happens largely in part due to trade routes.
Mr. Russell’s A History of Western Philosophy enlightened my deep thinking about truth. Then I read Mr. Rousseau 's of the Social Contract, or Principles of Political Right, and became a believer of social contract theory; I also self-studied some of Weber’s, Marx’s and Durkheim’s sociology thoughts, but the two-year preparation for Master study put an abeyance on my reading plan. Regarding to the educational philosophy, I self-studied the thoughts as ancient as Quintilian’s and Comenius’s, and as modern as Horace Mann’s, Dewey’s and Dr. Weis’ educational thoughts. Moreover, my teaching and administrating experience in both private for-profit education organization and in public schools in China plus the study of the real-life problems and contemporary researches in UB, generate a deep feeling that education studies should become an independent, open and scientific field of study. Furthermore, during my master study, I encountered numerous materials about social injustice, cultural prejudice, racial discrimination and political corruption which are all jeopardizing education practices, but most of our debates in the classroom were difficult to generate constructive suggestion. It is always good to have different opinions, but our discussions rely too heavily on individual’s life experience and it is no doubt that when the empiricism prevails, science dims. This observation motivates me to explore the education studies in a more scientific way. I hope my future effort will enable people to discuss and solve education problems on a scientific track, so that the education system in human society will be the secure for educating the “ideal human
When we talk about education, we remember our teachers of elementary, middle and high school because they left their mark on our lives, and are who we truly taught things that even we , and we have to our knowledge, is that the main purpose of my philosophy educational. The basis of my educational philosophy pragmatism. The goal of education for pragmatists is the socialization of the individual and the transmission of cultural ideas of man to new generations. In this way, new generations have no need to repeat it step by step, the experiences of their ancestors (Riestra, 1970). The school must be active in developing critical thinking in the learner. This should not be a passive entity in the process of their education, you must learn to learn . The school must prepare students for this interaction with their environment that is always changing.
The very first important development for a successful country is to have a respectable education system for those who need it from the first day they are born into the world. We have to instill what we want in our people to reflect how we want our to development to appear. In china their school system has more of a strict structure for example, at Harbin Number One High School; students begin school at 7:00 a.m., and remain until 8:20 p.m. The seniors, preparing for their final examinations, stay later, even until 10:00 at night.(Rybak) In a Chinese school the day are much longer than an American school day. This means that Chinese student spend a lot more time in school which bring us to conclusion that Chinese are more advantaged then the American student in long run. This prepares them for college or even the young adult can be bio-lingual. Most American student usually attends school for seven hours each weekday and may forget what they have learned because it in instilled into the young adults’ heads like the Chinese do with their students.
Prior to the creation of state maintained schools and academies in Greece, higher education was mainly reserved for the elite persons of a community (Handbook: Greece 253). Training for these citizens consisted of instruction in the areas of music, poetry, numeracy, and religious ritual (Handbook: Greece 253).
The American higher education system has always been deemed as the best in the world. Statistics consistently show that most Nobel winners received higher education in America and a majority of international students choose America as their dream county to study abroad. The standard of higher education in America is unique and unparalleled in many ways. However, it’s always hard to live up to a great reputation. The system suffers from deficits in many respects. For example, some scholars question the effectiveness of teaching and learning as the quality of graduated students is hardly satisfactory; also, the increase of cost and tuition is skyrocketing, which puts a huge burden on students and their parents; Therefore, accountability of higher education is doubted by a variety of individuals and groups. Education is man’s most valuable possession: it is the concept through which one’s love for learning stems, and the equipment used to pave an individual’s path to success. Although easily influenced by the opinions of others, education is one of the few concepts that neither internal nor external stress can strip from our being. The future of our society lies in the hands of our educators; the values and morals instilled by such figures govern the actions of the earth’s people.
Before, the education system used to have the best interest of children but instead it seems as if the professionals who work for the system cares more about the job qualifications than the true value of education and how well the people are attaining it. Public education uses to led the road to success, but after going through thirteen years of it and seeing what the public education system is all about, people have come to realize that it only affect others later on in life negatively.
Education is a very powerful key to success in modern day American society. More often than not, a person will not be able to find a decent job unless they have graduated from a reputable college with a degree. Because of this change in society, it has brought a lot of pressure by parents for their child to graduate and get a degree. A lot of those who graduate with a degree are not always the best candidate for the job, and even with the degree, they are not even always guaranteed a job. But personally, getting an education shouldn’t be as big of a deal, as it is now. Back in the day, most people did not go to college, none the less graduated from high school; yet they still made it through and learned lots of things from their jobs that they acquired.
