People driving under the influence of anything, but especially alcohol, is incredibly dangerous, very much illegal, and just plain selfish. Alcohol impairs your eyesight, your self control mechanisms, and most importantly, it impairs your judgement and thought processes. When a person makes the decision to get behind the wheel after they've been drinking, or even after one drink, they are deciding to drive unsafely and endanger the lives of themselves and others. It isn't that hard of a decision to ask someone else to drive, call an uber, or get a taxi. Worst case scenario, the person can find someone they know close by or a nearby hotel and spend the night. Not only is your life affected when your license is revoked and you can no longer drive, you can also be put in jail and charged a hefty fine. More importantly, the lives of the families of the victims are affected, as they lost a loved one to something they had no control over. Many families don't even have the chance to say goodbye to their children, siblings, or spouses before their lives are carelessly taken away by someone too selfish to realise the danger they're putting themselves and others in. Just because a person does not drink and drive themselves, doesn't mean they cannot be affected by this poor choice made by someone else. Drinking and driving is very dangerous. You are not only putting your life in danger, you are also putting those who are also on the rode in danger as well. There is always a better option than drinking and driving. You can sit your but where ever you’re at, or you can have a sober person come to pick you up. Whatever you do, do not get behind the wheel. That option can end badly for everybody.
I think that it is agreed by all parties that the prodigious number of sober drivers in our neighborhoods, city streets, and country roads is at present deplorable to the state of our great nation. Currently, a whopping ninety-eight percent of Americans of driving age feel threatened by those who drive under the influence of alcohol, which means that only two percent of Americans are able to fully relax and enjoy themselves while on the road, and with the growing awareness, this number could be on the rise (MADD Online: General Statistics 1). Drunk driving is a serious offense and should be avoided at all times. Drunk driving is the crime of driving while having alcohol in your blood. Alcohol is a depressant and it slows down the central nervous system. It impairs vision, concentration, hand-eye coordination, and comprehension. Thus, drunk driving is against the law and makes it very hard to function. Drink-ing alcohol got the best of my uncle Steve. He suffered from alcoholism at a very young age. As a concerning family we have tried to get him help but it never did any good for him. Drinking alcohol took over my uncles life and then eventually drunk driving became a natural habit of his life.

Hanson at the sociology department at the State University of New York states that “designated drivers have saved nearly 50,000 lives and spared many more thousands of people from suffering injury from drunk driving. The National Public Services Research Institute (NHTSA) did a study on 600 people who admitted driving while under the influence of alcohol. They described in detail the decisions they made leading up to the occurrence of driving while impaired like whether to take part in a drinking event, how to get to the event, how much to drink, and how to get home. The people being interviewed revealed more than 2,000 individual decisions that led to alcohol impaired driving. The decisions were then broken down into several categories as shown on the graph attached. Little is known as to what leads people to continue to drinking and driving.
