Dorm Life - Personal Narrative When a girl is dreaming of going to college, living in a dorm is probably not in the array of things that are being dreamt of. Going to college is supposed to be about freedom and living in your own apartment or house, right? Who wants to live with another girl in a 10 x 15 room? Who wants to have to use a bathroom and shower that is shared among thirty other girls? Not many people would say yes to these questions. I know I certainly didn't when I was planning for college. When my mom told me that she wanted me to live in the dorm my freshman year, I was absolutely devastated. I had planned on having my own place. No matter how hard I tried to argue that a dorm was not a safe and healthy place for me to live, my mom came back with a never-ending list of why I should live in one. Now that I have spent almost three months of my college life in a dorm that houses over nine-hundred girls of my same age, I have come to realize that my mom was right in telling me that dorm life has its advantages. On that dreaded Saturday morning when my family and I were standing in a line that seemed at least a mile long, to get an elevator up to my room. I was certain that I would hate living in the dorm. All I could see was a billion and one girls in bitchy moods because it was taking forever to move stuff in. No one seemed friendly and I could just imagine all the girls with terrible attitudes, myself included, that day having to live together and never really getting a break from each other. I was ready to turn around and go home at any second. All I would have had to hear was "let's go" and I would have been out of there. After many trips to and from the car and countless m... ... middle of paper ... ...rls everywhere that want to share their clothes and have the coolest wardrobe. I can honestly say that you would never have to wear the same thing twice if you didn't want to. What girl doesn't like that? On top of always having a cute outfit, if you ever need a date, there is always a girl who can set you up with one of her guy friends. Living in a dorm definitely has its disadvantages: sharing a small room, bathrooms, showers, and washing machines. Although all of these things are a burden, the advantages and opportunities that come along with dorm life, without a doubt override the disadvantages. Just from my personal experience and comments made by other girls, I would definitely recommend that every freshman girl live in a dorm. There is nothing that I would take for the different people that I have met and made friends with just by living in the dorm.
Going away to college is a great way for people to meet new friends and experience new things. Usually a setting unlike their home will help them with both of these experiences. While this may not be true for everyone, I believe everyone should try living in an area unlike his or her own. This is what develops a person intellectually and socially.
Tuition over the years have made it the struggle for students and their parent to make ends meet. The dorms cost a lot that make it payment really high. Living off campus would make life so much easier for parents and myself because the cost of the school would not cost as much as it does living in the dorms. The school should let students live off campus if they have 2 or more people living with them. If the school did let students live off campus I feel like they should be able to have room checks just like they do in the dorms. If the parents of the students let them live off campus the school should be able to let them do it too. Because really the parents of the students have more authority over the school. I feel that now that a lot of the dorms are getting broken into that it would be way safer to live off campus. That way I know that it is my responsibility if someone was to break into my house. If anything is broking into in our room even if it is locked I don’t think the school pays to get any of the stuff replaced. So living off campus can help students to have responsibility and become a real adult in the college
Graduating from high school and attending a college where I knew no one was a fearful thought. I was the only one from my close-knit group of friends to attend Missouri Western State University. Only a few days into the college experience and felt lonely. I had no one to do my homework with or eat with in the cafeteria with me.

Walking into Walnut Hills High School right now would have anyone thinking the just walked into the middle of a tornado. Everyone you look there are students running in and out of doors, in and out of cars, and most certainly either turning in missing assignments or retaking tests. There is only one way for you to explain all this ciaos, Senior Year, the year that all teens await with so much excitement and ambition and the year that every single hour long study dates pays off. For the class of 2021 this isn’t just their final year at Walnut Hills this is the year that friends separate and head off to their different university to follow their dreams.
My youth pastor pulled out of our church parking lot at three am in the morning loaded down with a bus full of twenty four teenagers including me. We were off at last head to Colorado Spring Colorado, little did I know, our bus was going to fall apart this very day.
High school and college differ in a variety of different ways that separate the two in a significant manner. High school is designed to prepare the student for college and on the other hand college is designed to prepare the student for reality. I’ve personally been enrolled in high school and college institutions, therefore I have experienced the reality of both. Many high school scholars enroll in college thinking that they’ll have nearly the same responsibilities and expectations in which they had to exceed in high school, which is very untrue. College is difficult and isn’t a push over like high school, so put forth your best effort. Although high school and college may seem similar, they are in fact surprisingly different regarding housing
My best friend, Michael, and I were recently shopping around trying to determine where we were going to live starting in the fall next school year. We both spent this last semester on campus to fulfil Georgia Southern’s first-year requirement and both of us would be quick to agree that it definitely had its pros and cons. Before we started, we sat down and took a look at what on-campus and off-campus housing had to offer using a cost-to-benefit ratio. While living on-campus is great in the fact that you are able to walk to class faster, you are located closer to the meal hall, and you have the ability to go to the library without searching for a parking spot; due to the tolls it takes financially, socially, and personally in regards to schoolwork and grades, living on-campus is an issue that I feel is a huge factor in low grades. Off-campus housing, due to the wide variety to choose from, is capable of providing students with the freedom they need in order to be their own person, the ability to hide away in your room when it’s time to study or visit one of the many amenities provided by the community when they feel like being social, and they provide all of this at a mere fraction of the cost of on-campus housing even when factoring in utilities, food, and gas.
What are you going to be missing if you decide to commute rather than living on campus? Many people consider college to be an unforgettable experience that will only happen once. College offers unique experiences such as football games, parties, and concerts that many will not be able to participate in after their college years. Living on campus also allows you to access the school’s library and labs to help you finish your work quicker. It also allows you to be more in touch with your professors and classmates for any questions you may have. The freedom and experience gained from college will also help you take your first step in adulthood. If you live on campus you start to make your own decisions and payments that your parents used to make for you. However, many students are not ready to live on their own and make those decisions. They quickly become homesick and their grades fail because they are too occupied with things that they are used to their parents doing. Many times kids who live on campus began losing touch with their siblings and parents because they only come home on major holidays like Christmas or Thanksgiving. It all depends on the person, if you are ready to take on a bigger responsibility or continue to have your parents do the adult things until you have
When I moved into my dorm, I didn’t know what to expect in college. It was something my parents expected me to attend. For most of life, I was a sheltered boy who stayed home all the time. I didn’t hang out with friends until my last year of high school. After I come home from school, I would either finish homework or watch Youtube videos. It wasn’t until the first few days of college until I realized the amount of freedom I received. College allowed me to do what I’ve wanted to do since I was a kid. It has already taught me more than the last 18 years of my life. I’ve experienced and learned more about myself and the world around me in just the first semester and it started with my classes.
College is a life altering experience. It is a place where you leave anything and everything you have ever known, to come to a place where nothing is familiar. The summer before your freshman year of college can be a nerve racking experience. You anxiously wait for the day when the mailman will bring you that envelope that holds your fate. Enclosed in this envelope is the name of your roommate. Your roommate can have the biggest influence on your freshmen year. They can turn into your best friend or your worst enemy. You anticipate the day when you actually get to meet the person you will be living with for the whole year. At Penn State there are no guarantees that you will have anything in common with your roommate at all, and that is a scary thing.
Most students are introduced to a whole new world when coming to college. For many, it is the first time they are on their own. College is a very different culture than high school. It takes time for most students to get acclimated to the college lifestyle. During a college student’s years at college they will partake in situations they never dealt with before. Most have never been to parties that last till about 4am with all the alcohol they can drink. A lot are also not used to having to share a bedroom with one or more persons, the heavy work load in the classrooms, and for some actually paying school tuition. The day to day college life is different for majority of first time college students.
Although frightening I believe taking the risk is worth it. College roommate relationships can be an important aspect of a student’s social development as well for mental health during a difficult transition. By constructing a meaningful relationship you can gain multiple dimensions of well-being, personal growth, you can gain a new aspect to life, and self-acceptance. By having Alex as a roommate I was able to be myself and find a person inside me who was hiding. So while many of you will argue that a college roommate is a terrible part of college---I argue the opposite---it was a blessing. Go out and walk into the door of your dorm---risk it all. There are many new things that you experience for the first time when starting college. One of the biggest changes is living with people who you have never met before. I lived about six hours away in Pennsylvania, so I did not know a single person before I started. That meant that I would have random roommates. Before I started I was nervous about what my roommates would be like. I was afraid it would be hard to adjust to. I was also afraid that they would either not like me or they would be difficult to live with.
