As a student of East Texas Baptist University living in centennial residence hall is difficult. I having to ask people to use their kitchen just to make a simple thing like waffles. I even want at least peace and quiet without my roommates being loud with visitors. Living in centennial or any of the other dorms is not the same as being able to live on your own where you have time to yourself. After my freshman year I was trying to live off campus because these dorms are really expensive. At East Texas Baptist University you have to be 21 to live off campus unless living with a parent. I believe that since you are able to do other things at the age of 18 you should be able to live off campus on your own. Tuition over the years have made it the struggle for students and their parent to make ends meet. The dorms cost a lot that make it payment really high. Living off campus would make life so much easier for parents and myself because the cost of the school would not cost as much as it does living in the dorms. The school should let students live off campus if they have 2 or more people living with them. If the school did let students live off campus I feel like they should be able to have room checks just like they do in the dorms. If the parents of the students let them live off campus the school should be able to let them do it too. Because really the parents of the students have more authority over the school. I feel that now that a lot of the dorms are getting broken into that it would be way safer to live off campus. That way I know that it is my responsibility if someone was to break into my house. If anything is broking into in our room even if it is locked I don’t think the school pays to get any of the stuff replaced. Going away to college is a great way for people to meet new friends and experience new things. Usually a setting unlike their home will help them with both of these experiences. While this may not be true for everyone, I believe everyone should try living in an area unlike his or her own. This is what develops a person intellectually and socially.
The adult age requirement in the US is 18 years old by law. If you are under the age of 18, you cannot vote, rent a hotel room, or even purchase a lottery ticket and you are considered a minor. As I thought of this article, many of the issues I have faced as a single Hmong woman in her mid-twenties came to mind. Should I discuss the functional reasons why marriage is so important in the Hmong culture, especially for women? Or do I talk about the lack of eligible, older Hmong men? Better yet, should I complain about the attempts by my relatives to find me a good husband as if it were an unfortunate circumstance that I was single instead of a conscious choice? Thinking it over, though, I decided that all those questions boiled down to one fundamental truth – the Hmong community is still trying to learn how to treat the increasing number of Hmong women who, like me, are making the choice to stay single in their mid-twenties.
Many studies have shown that adolescents residing in low income or high crime neighborhoods are more likely to get involved with deviant behavior or committing criminal acts. (Deutsch, 2012) There are several neighborhood factors that affect the crime rates of the neighborhood such as overcrowding, low economic status, the neighborhood’s reputation and its residential instability. These may create a disorganized community, leading to distrust and cynicism among residents in the community. As a result, there would be a higher rate of opportunities for crimes and delinquency. (Kurlychek, 2011) Thus high rates of crimes and violence are more likely to occur at these areas.
A college degree is one of the best educations that a person can get. It not only develops your mind, but it helps to develop you as a person as well. No matter what kind of degree you receive, whether it be a bachelors, associates, or masters you are more likely to get a better job than without it or with just a high school diploma. Workers with a college degree will earn much more and are much less likely to be unemployed than those with only a high school diploma. This paper will argue that with a college degree you are more likely to get a higher paying job than without a degree. I will support this argument with multiple scholarly articles and other valid sources to further convince you.
At the start of the semester, my oblivious state of nature associating with the Chinese culture reached an unacceptable level. Implementing a necessary change, I decided to educate myself on different cultures starting with China. I failed to ponder that such a rich, deep culture existed outside America. Encompassed by this country’s unique yet suffocating melting pot culture, my outlook believed ideas such as uniformity between American Chinese food and Authentic Chinese food. After this course, my bigot perspective widened as I witnessed diversity in the world. Before this class, when I thought of Chinese food, my connotation jumped to thoughts associated with chop suey, but as I progressed my education, my mindset gradually pondered foods like steamed buns or “New Year Cakes” with authentic Chinese food.
A very common concern that faces many high school students today in the world is whether they go to college or not. There are many factors in whether a student is eligible to attend a college or not. They have to have enough money to cover the cost, prepare early, and choosing what they want to attend college for. These are some of the many issues that might occur when a student starts to think or plan on going to a college.
In the United States, you are considered an adult at 18-years old. With age comes a plethora of other privledges. You can drive at 16 with a proper drivers license, legally engage in intercourse at 17, vote and purchase cigarrettes at 18 and purchase and consume alcohol at 21. Although there is one age restriction that hasn't been set in stone. In the justice system, one may be considered an adult at 18 and be tried as such. The option of being tried as an adult hangs on many circumstances. If the individual commited a serious crime, such as armed robbery, rape, or murder, then they may be tried as an adult. If the individual was tried as an adult in an earlier case, then they will continue to do so indefinetly. The prosecuter or judge may be given the option of how they want the individual to be tried. Maturity level may play a role. There are so many conditions that can lead to bing tried as an adult. This is when science comes in. Cognitive development, to be exact.
In these days, housing problems are one of the worst problems, not only for Seattle Central students, but for all college students in the United States. According to homeguides.sfgate.com, students suffer from getting houses or apartments in terms of cost and space. Apartments near and around our school are especially more expensive than other schools. Seattle central students are also confronting more severe problems now that housing costs are increasing. Housing costs are cheaper if apartments are a little further from Seattle Central. However, to move further means that students would have to abandon accessibility and convenience, which is important for students. Dormitories could be one of the best alternatives, but it has very limited capacity and is as expensive as apartments near our school.
There is a lot of pressure put on high school students to go to college. Junior and Senior year of high school all students hear is ‘where are you going to college’ and ‘what are you going to do with your life’. Such questions can be overwhelming and cause a lot of stress for students. It’s been put into everyone’s minds that in order to be successful you absolutely have to go to college and get a degree. Not every successful person went to college. Students living on campus don’t have to worry about time because they live in the college. On the other hand, students who commute to school, have to worry about getting to class on time. Students living on campus don’t have to waste money on transportation or food since it is all covered under a plan. Unlike commuters, who aren’t covered under a plan, they have to pay more money to get to school as well as for food. Students who live on campus tend to know more people and they know more about what’s going on around campus. However, students, who commute, don’t have that advantage because they are home most of the time. Living on campus can be more beneficial than living at home in many ways.

Staying at home provides having particular household tasks and broad accountability for the room the student stays in.
