Diversity assessment and action plan In the world, today diversity has evolved from the early days and is defined by our diverse world in many ways. In the early days and in some areas in the United States today, many define diversity as racial and gender differences. Racial and gender differences only describe a fraction of diversity and is much more than that. Diversity are the ways how people act, think, eat, and express religion. The differences in everyone makes the term diversity exist and everyone can learn something from other people to help expand their understanding and hopefully shed light on their own differences or diversity that they provide to the world. Coming from Guam, a place that is considered a territory with so much different cultures and people, it opened my eyes to how other people see things. Although there are differences, there were many similarities and I realized that there were more to diversity, and cultures when I moved from the island to the mainland. The move exposed me to other definitions of diversity like region of the U.S populated with one culture over another, and the different types of food people shared and enjoyed. Having an open mind to their perspectives and learning from their experiences, gives me the tools and a baseline to build from. It’s networking at its finest and it helps to know more people. According to Bucher (2015), “We increase our chances for success by expanding and diversifying our learning experiences and social networks,” (p. 41). To improve on leadership and make me a successful leader I need to encourage more of co-worker experiences, knowledge, and perspectives. A lot of people can provide things that I may never come across and with the wealth of knowledge that others can provide will help me excel in the organization and in my personal life as well as help others do the
