American Psycho is a 2000 film, starring Christian Bale as Patrick Bateman, a wealthy investment banker in New York, who suffers from narcissistic personality disorder. In the beginning of the film, we see Bateman having a meal with his colleagues in what seems to be an expensive restaurant. The film is narrated by Bateman, and although we see him in various settings and interacting with different people, his narration reveals his true feelings. After leaving the restaurant, Bateman and his colleagues go into a nightclub. At the nightclub, Bateman tries to get a drink with a drink ticket, but the bartender tells him that it is a cash bar, and tickets are not allowed. After she has walked away, Bateman makes the remark about how he would like to kill the bartender and play with her blood, although she does not hear what he has said. In the next scene, we see Bateman in his apartment, and although it is not decorated from corner to corner, we can see that it is expensive, and the things that he does have are not cheap. He also states that he feels like his sanity is slipping. The movie continues with many different scenes and narrations, but we are able to see that at the end of the movie, Bateman does start losing his mind. He gets to an ATM, and to him it reads, “feed me a stray cat”, and ironically, there is a stray cat near. He tries to put the cat into the ATM, but the cat resists and pushes away, Bateman then pulls out a gun to shoot the cat, but a woman sees him and interrupts him, and he then shoots her. He immediately drops the cat and runs, running into the police who are looking for him, and gets into a shootout with them. He kills more people in the same scene, and makes a phone call to one of his colleagues, confessing the things that he has done and the murders that he has
