Parenting Styles Assignment
1. According to the textbook, Diana Baumrind published her research about parenting after observing the interaction between parents and children for a long period of time. There are three types of parenting, including the permissive, authoritarian, and authoritative parent (p. 392). First of all, the authoritative parent is the most effective way of teaching children. This type of parents tends to get involve with the children’s activities. They approach children with a thoughtful and caring mind such as providing support, giving suggestion, and respecting children’s perspectives. If my children from the ages of four to six do not want to go to bed when it is bedtime, I would simply suggest them to go sleep. And if they insist not go sleep then I would let them stay up and do what they want without asking why they want to stay up and explaining the harmful effect of stay up at night.
b. If my 8-year-old child broke a favorite toy, I would yell at them for not taking care of his toys and ask the child to be more careful with the toys next time. Even though I knew that the child might be sad because he lost his favorite toy but I would not interfere with his emotion at that time. And I would let the child to deal with his own emotion.
c. If my 12-year-old child’s room is a mess, I would order the child to go clean the room. Even if he/she did not want to, he/she had to do it because we live in one house and I could not accept the fact that he/she made the room messy.
d. If my child does not want to go home because he/she has a project to finish, then I will let he/she stay and do the work. I will not interfere with his/her decision about staying at school or going …show more content…

According to an excerpt from Family Partnership and Culture, each caregiver parenting style will result in different trait of each child. For instance, if a parent has an authoritarian parenting style, then the child will acknowledge the importance of making choices. If the child makes a poor decision, he/she will have to face the consequences. At the same time the child will aware about his/her behavior when he/she talks to adults. Mostly of the time, they will communicate with a respect tone, formal attitude. The child is obedient and corporate with the adults (CDE Handout). Moreover, child who has parents that have an authoritative parenting style tend to feel protected by the parents. The child is able to express his/her emotions and behave in a certain way that his/her parents desire.
