Hello Class, for my week two discussion, I'm going to talk about Diabetes Insipidus. I’m going to explain what causes Diabetes insipidus, the symptoms associated with it and the treatments.

Diabetes Insipidus is a rare disorder that causes a disparity of water in the body. This disparity leads to intense thirst even after drinking fluids (polydipsia), and excretion of large amounts of urine. In most people, the kidneys pass about 1 to 2 quarts of urine a day. In people with diabetes insipidus, the kidneys can pass 3 to 20 quarts of urine a day. As a result, a person with diabetes insipidus may feel the need to drink large amounts of liquids.

The symptoms of diabetes insipidus are: Excessive thirst, Excessive urine volume. Excessive thirst: that may be intense or uncontrollable, usually with the need to drink large amounts of water or craving for ice water. Excessive urine volume: Excessive urination volume (or polyuria) occurs when you urinate more than normal. Urine volume is considered excessive if it equals more than 2.5 liters per day. A “normal” urine volume depends on your age and gender. However, less than 2 liters per day is usually considered normal. Excreting excessive volumes of urine are a common condition, but should not last more than several days. Many people notice the symptom at night.
