Postpartum Depression Pregnancies are often correlated with the assumption that it will bring happiness to the household and ignite feelings of love between the couple. What remains invisible is how the new responsibilities of caring and communicating with the baby affects the mother; and thus, many women experience a temporary clinical depression after giving birth which is called postpartum depression (commonly known as postnatal depression) (Aktaş & Terzioğlu, 2013). The article, Occurrence of depression during the postpartum period and risk factors that affect the development of the depression, is about a study conducted by Demet Aktas and Fusun Terzioğlu in November 20, 2007 until January 30, 2008. This study involved 330 women who recently gave birth at the Women’s Health Education and Research Hospital in Ankara. The goal of this study was to determine the experiences of depression for these women and the risk factor involved that develop into postpartum depression. The article came upon this information by first acquiring eligible candidates which were women who have recently given birth and women free from depression and psychiatric disorders. Then they conducting interviews to determine the cause of their postpartum depression. Three forms were used to collect data: a collection form about identifying characteristics of the women, an evaluation and diagnoses form for the mother after birth, and a form including the Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (a form that scores the sensitive to depression by factoring educational status, age, desire for the pregnancy, and having difficult in caring for the baby with the spouse.)
