I was an unusual kid when I was younger. Most kids hated going to the dentist, but unlike the other kids, every time I heard that I was going to the dentist, excitement grew in my eyes. From the cool instruments that they used, to the machine that sprays water in your mouth, I was fascinated with the world of dentistry. As I grew older, and more mature, the idea of becoming a dentist one day developed into more of an idea, but rather a passion. This feeling continued throughout my high school career-- where I was able explore the field of dentistry even more by conducting a research project relating to dental fillings, while shadowing at the same time. By the time I was starting to apply for college, this ultimately lead to my decision of going to a research university as a biological sciences major. My time here at Drexel has been truly amazing. The hustle and bustle of the city, mixed with the action-packed student life and the lives of those who live there were all that I have dreamt of in a perfect university. With Drexel’s remarkable academics, it brought many new opportunities to my front door-- one of them being the STAR program. …show more content…

Through this research in biomaterials science, I hope to develop a stronger connection to a faculty mentor. Hearing about this program made me think about what research I wanted to get into. Biomaterials research interests me because it draws upon all elements of scientific study: biology, chemistry and physics. Moreover, it is a practical area of research, as it helps to promote medical advances, including new techniques and materials in cosmetic dentistry.
