For many people, success is defined in various ways. Some might say that success means achieving what you dream or feel passion for. Larry Smith contends in his TED talk, that most individuals are likely to fail while trying to reach success, such as a great career, due to the fact that it is only possible to do so by following and finding your passion. However, a minority of people really follow their passion. I don’t entirely agree with Larry, I do not think passion is the main aspect when it comes to success, I believe success can be achieved in many ways and perhaps failure is not a bad thing. Being successful to me means you have accomplished what your goal or passion was. The opposite of success is failure, as it means to fail while trying to achieve those aims and goals. But besides this regular definition of failure, it also can be said that even wealthy and successful individuals with a great career fail throughout their lives. Being successful means the achievement of desired visions and planned goals, but as Larry Smith says, “It’s because no matter how many times someone tells you to follow your passion, you just won’t do it.” Instead, you will follow the safe life path and end up in one of those “soul-destroying” jobs. Larry believes that many individuals fail to have great careers because they make excuses to avoid taking actions. However, I recognize why some people do it. I believe most individuals are scared of failure and disappointment, or of what the society will think about them if they did not succeed.
