The concept of overpopulation is one of the environmental issues that has been debated for thousands of years and is still marked by arousing controversy. Our planet earth has a carrying capacity that is a number of resources any environment can provide and the amount of life those resources sustain (Global Casino). This can be explained by an example that if the forest has enough plants to sustain two hundred deer’s, then two hundred deer’s will be fine. But if there are more than two hundred deer’s at any given time, the entire population will suffer and if the population of deer would be more and more than deer will eat all plants before the plants can reproduce, and then all deer will survive. It took the human population thousands of years to reach 1 billion in 1804. However, it took only 123 years for us to double to 2 billion by 1927. The population hit 4 billion in 1974 (only 47 years), and if we continue at our current rate, the human population will reach 8 billion by the year 2028.Today china is the top most country having a greater population that is more than one billion. Growing advances in technology with each coming year has affected humanity in many ways. One of these has been the ability to save lives and create the better medical treatment for all. A direct result of this has been increased lifespan and the growth of the population. In the past fifty or so years, the growth of population has boomed and has turned into overpopulation. Worldwide approximately one million people die whereas in that same week two and a half people are born. In other words, humanity birth rate is 250% of the death rate. The increased population is leading to the stress on the land. Over past fifty years, India total population increased by about three times but the land under cultivation surged only by 15% from 118 hectares to 141 hectares. This will thus lead to less availability of land for agricultural purposes. India is the largest producer of wheat and rice after china with forty percent more producing than India. India is also the largest producer of fruits and vegetables. But as we know with the inclination in overpopulation our natural resources are also declining day by day. But how the population growth is leading to the surge in the depletion of natural resources, to feed more and more people more land is brought under agriculture by cutting trees. This, in turn, will lead to the depletion of wildlife. In addition to this, population growth is causing a strain on the resources of land, electricity, transport etc. To meet the increasing consumption of electricity in homes, industries and markets, thermal power plants are using up the coal reserves. So there is depletion of natural resources. Our natural resources bring balance in the environment and make it stable.
