My name is Karisa Cisneros and I reside in Mesa, Arizona. I am in the eleventh grade at Mountain View High School. Currently, I am enrolled in Holocaust literature and we are learning about genocide, not only the well known one in Germany, but around the world as well. One that really caught my attention was the genocide in Darfur, that is happening currently as you read this letter.

In Western Sudan, there is a current mass slaughter and rape of Darfuri men, women, and children. As of today, over 2.8 million people are displaced and 480,000 people have been killed. This act of genocide is being carried out by the Janjaweed; government-armed and funded Arab militias. And although the systematic murder, rape, torture, looting, polluting water …show more content…

A lasting political situation is needed to guarantee the rights and security of the Darfuris. People of your position can make a difference. Don’t keep this topic in secret; make sure that the Darfuri genocide is in the media and people of power (like yourself) talk about it. I suggest to call it the Darfur genocide in place of Darfuri crisis because stating it as a genocide brings the issue more attention and may convince other nations to take it more seriously. Many agree that we enforce the UN’s proposed no-fly zone over Darfur to prevent the Sudanese government from bombing its own citizens. More effective methods include freezing the financial assets of the people controlling the genocide, enforce a travel ban on leading members of military and officials, and close down international accounts of businesses owned by the Sudanese state and military personnel. These will cause the people enforcing genocide to be less powerful and essentially put them on the same level as the people they are prosecuting. It is harder to persecute people that are similar to you, and depriving the ‘masterminds’ of this genocide of less luxuries might just do the trick. Most importantly, the international community should demand comprehensive peace plan for not only Darfur, but all of Sudan. These actions will cause a

This aids in supporting the claim that when groups come together they can help those involved seeing that the I.C.C has come together to go against the injustices committed by Bashir, which would help stop the injustices to help the many people involved in these atrocities. Likewise from Polgreen´s text, “The I.C.C. prosecutor, Luis Moreno-Ocampo of Argentina, charges that Bashir has "masterminded and implemented" a plan to destroy the people of Darfur. "´Al-Bashir organized the destitution, insecurity, and harassment of the survivors," he contends. "He did not need bullets. He used other weapons: rapes, hunger, and fear.´" As exhibited, Luis Moreno-Ocampo from the I.C.C has stood up in order to stop the injustices that Bashir has committed against the people of Darfur.

The Darfur Genocide violates the rights of its citizens; steps should be enforced by United Nations and it allies.
