DECA Reflective Essay

The first activity I participate in is DECA. DECA is a youth business competition, and I have been a member of my school's chapter for three consecutive years. I am currently Vice President for the 2015-2016 school year. I have competed regionally and provincially in the categories of Business Services Marketing, Quick Serve Restaurant Management and Franchising Entrepreneurship. Along with qualifying for provincials I have placed top ten in my category. As Vice President I delegate tasks, plan and carry out meetings, organize fundraisers, train members and attend conferences.

The second activity I engage in, is Music Council. In September of 2014 I founded the first Music Council in my school and have served as President since. I organize and lead meetings, events and fundraisers. I also perform (sing) in many of these events. As President I am the liaison between Music Council and the rest of the school and community. I began working at Canada's Wonderland in August of 2015 and I have been recruited to return for the 2016 season. My job duties include customer service, ticket sales, ticket taking, parking tolls, seasons pass processing and data entry. In my position I was also recognized for selling the most number of season passes in a single shift.

In my view, a good citizen is someone who not only fulfills their duties as a citizen, but exceeds expectations. As a citizen it is our duty to know and exercise our rights & freedoms, as well as not to infringe on the rights and freedoms of others.

Other duties include obeying the law, serving on a jury when summoned, paying taxes, voting, etc. The role of a good citizen does not end at fulfilling their duties, it begins. We must also advocate for recognized injustices in society that call for
