Diversity

The concept of diversity is very broad and it covers many definitions. We can say that, above all, diversity is a characteristic feature of our world and the reality of the society around us. A reality that in recent years has been reinforced by economic globalization, and the mobilization of markets and people. More and more people move around the world, bringing their culture and personal experience. For our society, cultural diversity is a fact that in many years it has become very evident largely due to the incorporation of immigrants. In the case of a business, cultural diversity can bring a number of positive elements such as creativity, innovative spirit, commitment, responsibility, knowledge, experience, etc. However, very often, cultural diversity is interpreted in stereotypes and prejudices. And in a way, more or less open, people are considered different in many cases subject to negative consideration. In most cases, this means that cultural diversity is associated with difficulties and problems and more positive side is not contemplated.

Clearly, not all persons belonging to the same culture are equal. Each person or society has its own identity, established by factors such as ethnic history, religious tradition, paths, experiences, and experiences. Thats why cultural diversity has a negative impact on a group of people or country. It creates social problems and conflicts that eventually results in uprisings, revolutions, or wars. ... of this is not true because I’ve experienced it. My home country, Puerto Rico, suffers from a to diverse society. Since Puerto Rico is a part of the USA, many of the American cultures, laws, traditions and other things have been mixed with native Puerto Rican cultures. This has created the big problem of the extinction of nationality. We as Puerto Ricans are very passionate and devoted to our traditions, but every day, we see that the American culture takes over.

Diversity is a very potent reality of life, were it weakness society in many levels. Cultures that are not supposed to mix eventually will clash on uprising and social problems. People should try to maintain their own culture identification and respect each others. From a little town in Mexico, to the huge city if Hong Kong in China, every community has its on identity that shouldn’t mix with other ones.
