Two things in the reading I thought were of potential value and relevance to my practice where the characteristics of a crisis and the crisis intervention models. In the reading it discuss the characteristics of a crisis, which is basically gives us an expanded definition of crisis. Crisis has a presence of both danger and opportunity. It is a danger because it can overwhelm the individual to the extent that serious pathology, including homicide and suicide, may result. Crisis is an opportunity because the pain it induces impels the person to seek help. When the individual take advantage of the opportunity it can help plant the seed of self-growth and self- realization. Another characteristic of crisis is the seeds of growth and change. These three models provide groundwork for many different crisis intervention strategies and methods. Developmental- Ecological model and contextual- ecological models are the new models that targets ecological factors of a crisis. There are also two field based practice models that are called psychological first aid and the ACT model. The equilibrium model is when people in crisis are in a state of psychological or emotional disequilibrium in which their usual coping mechanisms and problem-solving methods fail to meet their needs. The cognitive model is based on the premise that crises are rooted in faulty thinking about the events or situations that surround the crisis, not in the events themselves or the facts about the events or situations. Psychosocial transition model is when they assume that people are products of their genes plus the learning they have absorbed from their particular social environment. Characteristics of a crisis and the crisis intervention model have potential value and relevance to my practice from the reading because it gives me a very detailed definition of what a crisis is something we all need to know. Crisis workers deal with many ethical dilemmas each and every day. Workers tend to solve ethical dilemmas in different ways. I would go about solving and ethical dilemma by considerate of others feelings, following the rules, and making sure I made the right decision. If a person has a client that wants to thanks them by giving them a gift or something that has been coming to me for months or a year and build some trust and comfort from that person. It is ok to receive that gift because you would not want to make your client feel rejected. This example is away I would be considerate of others feelings. I would make sure my decisions are sound, not only ethically but legally. I will need to remember that I cannot help anyone if you put yourself in a position to lose your license or your freedom. I need to be very thoughtful of my decision when making it. I will need to be able to live with my decision and to feel doing what is in the best interest of your client. If I feel like it is hard or I need some input on the situation for me to make a decision, I would get help from others but keep my clients information confidential. Knowing how to resolve ethical dilemmas in the workplace can increase your decision-making effectiveness while keeping you and your company on the right side of the law and
