Counseling Psychology is a specialty within the professional psychology that maintains a focus on facilitating personal and interpersonal function across the life span. Those who are Counseling Psychology focuses on the clients emotional, social vocational, education health-related, developmental, and organizational concerns. Finding the right person to do my interview was difficult. I wanted to interview someone who are passionate in their field. The person that I found was Lawrence Cariaga. He is a dear friend of mind and motivated me to never give up on my dreams and keep shooting for what you believe in. He is a passionate in his work duty and tries his best to help those are in need. The important method has done differently in each clients. With each therapeutic methods he had learned, he has to find a model that fits with the client, and if that method does not work, they do more research and find a method of therapeutic that can help the client overcome his obstacle.
Are you planning on furthering your education? He will further his education in PhD in psychiatrists. Since the program is not offered in Hawai`i, he plans to move to the Mainland a year from now. When he finishes his hours to apply for license in the state of Hawai`i, he plan on staying and work before he applies. If he gets accepted into a Doctoral program during completing his hours, he will hold off the license and attend to the doctoral program and will take the state test after he completed his additional hours as a resident.
What sort of advice would you give towards someone who’s pursuing a degree in
Lawrence gave a great example of what you can do with your psychology degree, whatever you want to do within that field, never give up and push toward your goals as a counseling psychology, social psychology, or even a Cognitive Neuropsychology. While doing the interview with Lawrence, he really does appreciate his job and the studies he had done changed him to have a better view of becoming a counseling psychology. I learned that here in Hawaii, it takes awhile to be licensed in psychology since you need the amount of hours; however, as what Lawrence said, sometimes you are not able to the hours if they are not many clients coming into therapy, and the therapist only cover a few hours a day or even once a
