Imagine seeing a student panicking about simply forgetting a pencil in her locker. She nervously walks up to the teacher with her head down and politely asks if she could go back and get it. The teacher grabs her arm. He brings her up to the front of the classroom, grabs his paddle off his desk, and smacks her hardly with the paddle, several times in front of the class. They all laugh and stare at her in a mean way. She was humiliated and later teased. Hopefully no parents would want their children to go through this. Corporal punishment in schools is wrong because students could be emotionally, physically, and mentally harmed, it creates an unsafe learning environment for children, and many students suffer from humiliation and bullying. Corporal punishment is not the right way to punish children because it is humiliating and will add more bullying to schools. “Children who experience corporal punishment are more likely to hit or use other violence against other students or people(Anastasia 3)” When an administrator or someone kids look up to does someone thing, it makes the thing they do seem ok to their pupils. When teachers hit their students the children will pick up from that thinking it is ok to use violence against other people as well. Some people think that it is ok because it teaches students to express their anger through violence, but this will lead to children being violent against each other. This will cause much more bullying because the children will start to hit each other. Also some children think that it is funny to see other people in pain, so they will laugh or even beat up the children who were hit by their teachers or administrators. Why would any parents allow their children to be bullied and humiliated at school? Parents should not allow their children the suffer the harsh beatings of corporal punishment. With corporal punishment being allowed in schools students have been emotionally, physically, and mentally harmed, going to school in an unsafe environment, and have suffered from humiliation and bullying.
