Do you ever wonder what authors do with their books once they're finished writing? Or if there’s anyone else that helps them proofread their work? Well, there is a specific job that does exactly that; they are called editors. An editor is someone who loves words, books, and is a critical reader. One day I hope to work for a small company so I am able to gain experience. Then, I want to move to a big city and work for a large company. I might even consider coming back to a small town and starting my own company. That way, small town authors will be able to have a chance to get their manuscripts read and edited. If I started my own company, I would have to hire a lot of employees to help authors with their work. Editors are helpful in revising manuscripts, and helping the authors achieve their goals. Many people think that there is only one type of editor, the type who reads and edits manuscripts. However, there are many different subcategories within the title of “editor”. A copy editor is the type of editor that most people are familiar with. Copy editors arrange layouts of articles, photographs, or advertisements to make sure everything looks presentable for its audience. Any of these categories would be a benefit to help one exceed in their job field. A degree in communications will give you the ability to talk with writers and help them enhance their work successfully. A degree in journalism would be beneficial because many editor end up working in the news field, receiving and reporting stories on television.
