“The Parable of the Prodigal Son” and “The Myth of Icarus” are stories that for millenniums have had countless impacts on a plethora of people’s lives. Even though thousands of years have passed since these stories were first told, we can still learn from these stories. They are universal and that is what makes them so powerful. These stories give readers a time to reflect and learn something from them rather than living our day to day lives and making mistakes at some point. These stories have been, and still are, influential and memorable because they both teach the readers the importance of forgiveness and not being greedy.

“The Parable of the Prodigal Son,” which is originally one of the parables of Jesus, is a story with meaning and empathy. The moral of this story is that no matter how badly we mess up, we are not beyond forgiveness and redemption. In “The Myth of Icarus,” we learn about the importance of balance. “This applies to all aspects of our life: physical, mental, financial, social, emotional and spiritual. We should not be too greedy and want everything and neither should we be too fearful and avoid everything. Greed and fear are two emotions that direct lot of what we do. We need to consciously be aware of these emotions as we live our lives and make sure we do not fall prey to either of them” (Sampath). Both “The Parable of the Prodigal Son” and “The Myth of Icarus” are universal stories and that is what makes them very powerful. These stories will forever be significant and notable, not only because they are good stories, but because we can relate and empathize with these two
