Gatsby loves Daisy while the man In the road loves the boy. The man and Gatsby both take risks that will benefit the person they love. They are both very selfless. The common theme of the great Gatsby and The road is that love is unbreakable. Love blinds us, moves us and changes us.

In both The Great Gatsby and The road , the man and Gatsby are blinded by love. In the Road, The boy talks to the man about death and says “What would you do if I died?[The Man:] If you died I would want to die too.[The Boy:] So you could be with me?[The Man:] Yes. So I could be with you.[The Boy:] Okay, “( Mccarthy 122). In this quote, the man indirectly tells the boy that he loves him so much that if the boy died, he would want to die too. This means that the man’s love for the boy is so strong that he does not want to live without the boy. This relates back to the theme of love being strong, because even in this dark world, love exists, infact love covers up how beautiful life is. Similarly, Tom in The great gatsby commits adultery and causes so much pain, and yet Daisy is adored by Gatsby. "When I said you were a friend of Tom's, he started to abandon the whole idea. In The Great Gatsby, Daisy is impacted a lot by something small just because of the feeling she has towards Gatsby. “Suddenly, with a strained sound, Daisy bent her head into the shirts and began to cry stormily."They're such beautiful shirts," she sobbed, her voice muffled in the thick folds. "It makes me sad because I've never seen such – such beautiful shirts before." Daisy sees his shirts and is overwhelmed with emotions because love can do this to you.
