Have you ever watched a movie and been dissatisfied, because it was not similar to its book? There are multiple movies that seem as if they are their own story, for they don't resemble their book at all. For example, “The Pit and the Pendulum.” by Edgar Allen Poe. He, himself would not approve of the film that follows his story. For one thing, the storyline was no where near to being like his book. Another reasoning is that he wrote based of one man not multiple people. And finally, he wouldn’t of approved of the art on the walls in the room with the pit and pendulum. These are the reasonings of why Poe would not appreciate the film. The plot of the movie was that a man’s sister had died and he believed she had been murdered. The viewer later learns that the girl is alive and had an affair with her husband’s doctor. The man never finds out his sister was still alive because she gets …show more content…

The reasoning behind this, would most likely be approved of by Poe, because the longer you stayed alive the more they gained your morals and will to live. Other than that Poe wanted it pitch black, total darkness. Even though it would be hard to film complete dark, they could have emphasized the sound effects. To make the audience guess what it could possibly be, and hope it’s not what they expect it to be. The movie overall could have had less movement or life and more of a dreary development. Edgar Allen Poe’s book, “The Pit and the Pendulum,” was made into a movie; which was not artistically valid. Poe would not be very satisfied with the outcome of the film. The plot was not at all, the way he would have planned it to be. Also, there were far more characters than what Poe would have wanted, and what he had in his written version. Lastly, the infernal art that covered the walls in the pit. Either way, no reader or viewer would know that they were the same story, nor the same
