Community policing is different from normal police work. In community policing, the officers and the people of the community must work together. “Citizens and the police work collectively to identify problem, purpose solutions, implement action, and evaluate the results in the community” (Bohm & Haley, 2014, p. 227). The officers and the people of the community need to work together to make the community safer for everyone.
There are four main recommended steps for problem solving in community policing. These steps are scanning, analysis, response, and assessment. Scanning requires officers and members of the community to identify the problems that are occurring. This can be done in the community by the officer going from door to door, or by setting up a meeting for the community to come together to talk about what they think the …show more content…

The issues could be from speeding in the neighborhood to burglaries, or anything in between. When the officers and the community analyze the situations, they can look at all the details of what is going on and figure out the underlying issues. If there has been an unusual amount of burglaries, then the officer and the citizens might want to talk about starting a community watch to help lower the crime in the community. The community and officers will then respond to what the issues are. This could be the start of the neighborhood watch.
