practicum. I have been observing my students for five weeks now and I was able to decipher the strong readers and weak readers through class behaviors and participation. Through interactions and observations student one I choose as a strong reader and student 2 as a weak reader. Student one was labeled strong because he is in the Highly Capable group. I was drawn to this student because every time I observed him, he was reading. He finished every assignment first and would pull his book out. He is very good at multitasking as well, he can have a conversation and continue to read and fully comprehend both tasks. I am not in class during SSR, but I know this is his favorite time of class. She is a very sweet little girl that just wants to be successful. She likes to read just mostly at home with her parents. She loves just to sit at her dinner table and read with a parent. Both parents have different methods of reading with her. Her papa will stop every few pages to talk about what they have read and she said she really likes that. With her mom they just read to build her confidence, both methods are working for her. While in class reading was not as fun because most students read faster than her. There are similarities between both student’s responses. Neither of the students prefer Storytown over SSR. Through observation of the entire class and discussing with their classroom teacher, majority of the class had the same opinions, boring. Both students I interview prefer SSR due to getting to read what they enjoy. When forced to read an uninteresting book, reading becomes a chore and not interesting. Student 1 stated some of the stories are interesting, but not interesting enough to pick over Harry Potter. For my future classroom I would like to incorporate as much SSR as I can while planning what to do after students are finished with
