In today’s modern day, popular music has reached an all time low. Music lacks the artistic value that it once had. Singers rarely sing songs they actually wrote, and ironically, it is a rarity for music to have an actual musical instrument in it. Gold by Kiiara is not only bad even by normal popular music standards, it is exceptionally bad.

The chorus of Gold by Kiiara contains no actual words. If you listen to Gold what you will find, is a series of computer generated beats, notes, and highly edited vocals. The chorus is literally a multitude of sounds sung at different notes that are then quickly edited together; so quick, that you cannot actually sing along with them. You cannot understand most of the words in this song, but when you hear the few words that you can, the song will not stop repeating them. The two phrases that stick out the most are “gold up in my teeth” and “without ever letting you know.” Eventually, the repetition of the same phrases over and over become frustrating, especially when the radio stations seemingly play it all day long.
The song lacks artistic value. It is a true representation of what popular music has become today. It used to be that a musician was an artist, they had practiced their craft for thousands of hours. Their work was a reflection of themselves, and of their life experience. This is not the case with Gold. Gold does not have any sort of deeper artistic roots. It is just what sounds good, no more no less. To the point that the writer saw it unnecessary to even include actual words throughout the most important part of the song. This is not just a reflection of our modern day perception of music, but our culture as well. It perfectly portrays our modern day “whatever works” sort of attitude.
