The MBTI and NEO-PI-3 are two personality assessments that can be used by researchers and psychologists to assess clients, or by everyday people looking to get a better understanding of their personality and resulting behaviors. While reading through and evaluating the results I received, many similarities and few differences regarding my personality and resulting behavior were found. Personality assessments are known to not be entirely accurate in assessing a person’s personality and as a result, there can be inconsistencies between the results and someone’s actual beliefs. The results from the MBTI gave me the ESFJ type (extraversion, sensing, feeling, judging). Characteristics of this type can include being warmhearted, conscientious, and cooperative. These individuals want the world around them to work effectively and will be determined to achieve this. They like working with others to complete tasks correctly and within time limits and are loyal and trustworthy. The needs of others’ are a top priority and they will try to help them in any way possible. When they contribute something they want to be appreciated for it. Results of the NEO-PI-3 showed I was high in neuroticism, very high in extraversion, low in openness, high in agreeableness, and very high in conscientiousness. These scores can indicate someone who is prone to worry and may become distressed in certain situations. They prefer to work with others in a leadership position and can be very active and outgoing. Practical and traditional thinking are preferred along with technical problem-solving. Along with working well with others, they can be friendly and well-natured. Having a well-organized and consistent routine is important with detailed and efficient work. The results of the two tests showed similarities in describing my personality. One issue I ran into while taking both the MBTI and NEO-PI-3 was determining whether or not I felt a certain way some of the time or most of the time. These questions could be answered either way and can lead to different results. Although these questions are vital to the assessments, they can very easily lead to inaccurate results. For the few inaccurate evaluations of my personality that were found, I believe this could have resulted from grouping similar aspects of personality together. For example, both assessments revealed I prefer working and being in the company of others more than I like being by myself. This conclusion is inaccurate because it is more balanced between the two rather than one being favored over the other. Since I display more characteristics of an extrovert than an introvert, the assessments could have pushed for a more extroverted description of working and being with others, even though I prefer to be alone just as much as I prefer to be with others. Self-report has always been one the easiest ways to gain insight of a person’s personality. These test can range from quizzes filled out online that tell you which pop star is your personality twin to standardized tests requiring a certified test user. Some of the most popular and highly researched tests have been the MMPI and its successors. The MMPI, created by Stark R. Hathaway and John Charneley McKinley, was the first step towards the MMPI-2-RF. The MMPI was firstly created to test individuals who were 14 years old and older. After taking the MBTI Assessment I do not agree with the results. My results showed that I had marginal or no preference of extraversion over introversion. Also, that I have moderate preference of intuition over sensing, moderate preference of feeling over thinking. And moderate preference of judging over perceiving. I did not understand the results regarding extraversion and introversion.
The bases of this paper will be based on the results that I had obtained when I took the Myers-Briggs personality test. The results that I had obtained was that I was determined to be an ENFJ. I will go into depth about letter and how each represents that a specific aspect of my personality. The results that I had received were not what I had expected, but the more I read about the trait the more I realized how it suited me. I will also talk about the information that I had found useful from the book, Type Talk at Work: How the 16 Personalities Types Determine Your Success on the Job by Otto Kroeger, which gave me insight on how to interact with other personality types especially in the work environment. The information that I absorbed from the personality test and from the book will go into use in my personal and work life so that both environments will be cohesive and peaceful.
Earth is populated by billions of people – one person different from the next. The experience of tragedy and joy also plays a critical role in giving people their individual identity. Personality is the other factor that separates one person from others, and the personality of an individual depends heavily on his or her beliefs, culture, and the environment in which he or she is raised. There are several different types of personality tests that one can take to identify certain traits of his or her identity, and one of them is the Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). According to MBTI and my life experience, as an ISTP I possess an inquisitive mind, an adventuresome spirit, and a desire to be active.

The information I found in this study complimented the conclusion of the other article I reviewed. The Neuroticism-Extraversion-Openness Five-Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI) is a widely used personality inventory. It has sixty questions using a Likert scale that measures five personality traits: OCEAN – openness (to experience,), conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. My overall results from the NEO-FFI were low in neuroticism, low in extraversion, high in openness, average in agreeableness, and high in conscientiousness. The Five-Factor Model of Personality gives an insight to psychologists when dealing with patients and test subjects. Due to this theory, research psychologist are able to research personality more accurately and uphold a better understanding when discussing the reasoning behind certain pre-disposed tendencies.
