Two weeks ago I visited the Arthur Rose Museum with my classmates. My favorite piece of artwork was Men 1966 by Cecil Williams. This photograph grabbed my attention because the focal point was a young, lady. Men 1966 was one of the best photographs in the Arthur Rose Museum due to its creativity. Cecil Williams’ Men 1966 is a black and white photograph that was produced in 1966. The photograph has a 5x7 frame and it is not very large at all. Although the location of the picture is not mentioned in the description, it is evident that the people who are in the photo are college students. The focal point of the picture is a beautiful, young lady and there are several men who are behind here. All of the men in the picture are looking at the attractive, young lady with admiration. All of the young men in the photograph were admiring the beautiful, young lady for her poise and sophistication. Perhaps Cecil Williams is trying to convey a message about true beauty within his artwork. In the photograph, the young woman is a representation of what society wants expects young, women to look like. However, I do not agree with this message at all. A young, lady can be whoever she wants to be and she does not have to live up to society’s standards of beauty or sophistication. During the 1960s, young women who were considered classy where sought after by men. It is evident that there was a large amount of misogyny back in those days and society constantly tried to convince young women that being classy and perfect was the best way to get the attention of a man.
