It seems that everyone has heard the old adage “life is short.” If that’s true, then high-school is even shorter and there’s a lot to do. For today’s teens there is a lot of pressure to do everything; sports, Clubs, get good grades, have a lot of friends, spend time with their family, and other social pressures. Sadly it is nearly impossible to do everything, there simply are not enough hours in the day. Each year teenagers are faced with a choice of how to spend what little free time they have. Some choose to do sports such as Volleyball, football, baseball, or soccer; others are more creative and join choir, theatre, art, band, or guard. The causes of joining winter guard are a desire to make new friends, develop good health habits, and learn …show more content…
Members of winter guard have an extremely unique opportunity to be a part of a group of people who truly trust and care for each other. On days guard practices the team members can be together at school as late as nine-o’clock. Although practice doesn’t start till five, many of the girls on the team stay at school and do their homework. They then as a group get dinner because it allows them more time together and to do schoolwork. You will have a lot of time to bond with other members in guard. Whether it’s during practice, on the bus to a competition, or at a competition itself the company never gets tiring and is always there to be a shoulder to cry on when needed. If one is looking to make friends a great place to start is at winter …show more content…
Although most people on the team are friends, disagreements are bound to arise and have to be worked through in order to make a show. Each person is an individual and will have different ideas and perspectives and it is an important life skill to learn to respect other people’s thoughts. As a member of the guard one will need to learn to take criticism. It is hard to listen to what other people say is being done wrong, especially when one has worked hard on something. But, it is important to know there will never be any improvement unless it is allowed. Through the contributions of others one can becomes the best they can be. It has been said over and over again that there is no “I” in team. This certainly rings true in the guard. Everyone wants to help each other out if they can. Teamwork is very important skill to have to be a successful person, being a member of winter guard teaches that skill. There are many lessons taught in school, none as meaningful as how to work with other people, or how to maintain one’s health, nor as important as friendship. Winter guard is a great team for people looking for a creative outlet. The sense of camaraderie, teamwork, and health benefits, make winter guard a great place to spend one’s time. All in all one would become a member of the guard for a myriad of reasons, but mostly because it’s what one loves to do. Passion makes us
Build cohesive teams through mutual trust. Mutual trust among commanders, subordinates, and partners is the first key to win the battle. Developing
Since the completion of my training program I have had students of varying ages, disabilities and skiing levels. They have provided many new learning experiences for me. Without a doubt I have consistently observed the pleasure this sport gives to the students and their families. Physical and mental growth are very important to the overall well being of the student. Sharing my skills and love of skiing has been fun and rewarding to me.
How a team works together affects its ability to complete a project or task cooperatively. “Each person in a group could have different ideas about the best way to solve a given problem” (Working Together, 171). Team members must “learn to be open to new ideas and develop skills in listening, questioning, and consensus building” (Working Together 173). A lack of trust among team members constrained their individual and collective voices, restricting the sharing of knowledge, experience, and opinions” (Working Together, 174). With a foundation of trust within a team, the groundwork for open communication is built. However, communication barriers may lead to disharmony among team members. Building trust and creating an atmosphere that fosters open communication enables team members to feel comfortable voicing their opinion. Without this, some team members may be “afraid to express a contrary point of ...
Winter Clothes is a poem about clothes that one would wear during the winter. The to me brings the image of Randy from A Christmas Story, where his mother puts layer upon layer of winter clothes on him to the point when he can not put his hands down to his sides, He falls over and due to the layers cant get up. The poem describes a kid with layer over layer of winter clothes. The topic of this poem is one kids can relate to due to the fact that as kids we all have had to go through this at one point. Winter Clothes can also be used as a helpful tool to help kids learn about layering and even dressing themselves during the winter months. Appropriate for 1st grade-5th
High school students were surveyed about what negative effects they experience when they feel overwhelmed, both in school and at home. “40% of students say they [lost] interest in school and learning” altogether and “35% said they participated less in extracurricular” activities (Powell). Extracirriculars are an essential part of a teenagers high school expirience, but if students cannot handle the high expectations academically, they will not voluntarily add more to their agenda, even if it means giving up something they were once passionate about. There is not enough time for extracurriculars when workloads take up both the days and nights of most high school students. The rumor that once college starts, students should be prepared for sleepless, coffee fueled nights is losing validity; those nights begin in high school. “73% of students [lose sleep due to the high stress levels]” in school. Whether they are losing sleep from anxiety to complete their work or if they actually sacrifice ...
Since my first visit at the Air Force Academy as a young boy, I instantly realized this is where I want to go. Ironically, I never why I wanted to go, was it my parents will or the expectations of others and myself? As I started to mature and grow, I learned more about the academy and what it really meant to become a cadet. The opportunity to have a world class education pushed me to pursue acceptance to the Academy. Going to the Summer Seminar will give me a chance to explore many aspects of cadet life to further enrich my interest in the Academy.
This experience for me is challenging yet very fulfilling. Though it is not in a business set up, I’ve learned a lot of valuable lessons that I may be able to use as well someday in my career. I believe that a group with a lot of members means diversity even though we have the same culture. There will be members who have different styles in working with other people as well as personalities that may clash with each other. In this experienced, I’ve seen some of my members fight with each other due to unwillingness to compromise with each other’s ideas, members who are not committed in doing their task well and not submitting their part on time as well as uncooperative members. During this time, I perceive that this situation is my responsibility, if my members are not motivated enough, it means I’m not inspiring them to meet our goals, if they don’t know how to compromise with each other, it means I don’t have enough authority and my influence is not sufficient for them to be willing to listen and follow me as well as compromise with the other members. During the time when the conflict arises towards my members, I have decided to take some actions because besides from it’s my responsibility to meet our team’s deadlines and goals, I believe that as a leader, I have an opportunity to form a group that is harmonious, motivated in
Likewise, the conflict should be acknowledged as soon as it is seen and prepare for the resolution. During such time, the discussion about it plays vital role towards resolving the conflict. In order to maximize team efforts, teammates must cooperate with each other and try to resolve conflict with proper and transparent communication. While resolving a conflict, it is also important for the teammates to remember why they are together in the first place and follow their best foundational strategy.
The crisp New Hampshire air chilled the private school students with its sickly cold fingers as it would rage by with a fury that would disappear as soon as it came. The grey skies which hovered above stole away the sun so that the warring world around them seemed all the more dismal and depressing. Despite the hanging feeling of dread the weather and World War seemed to influence, the boys themselves were almost giddy with the merry thoughts that plagued their juvenile minds. It was almost the end of the day which would give way to a freezing night where most people would prefer to sleep or stay indoors; however, that was not the case with these merry men of the winter session as they hastily prepared the scenery around them with the promise of prizes, the guarantee of games, and the silhouettes of snow statues.
The team members compete for their position as they try to establish themselves in relation to other team members and the leader, who may receive challenges from team members.
As the old saying goes, "An ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure." The dynamics of a team can be very diverse. Sometimes that's good and sometimes it's bad. It is so important to extinguish all issues from the very beginning because otherwise they lie buried and slowly build into something that is blown out of proportion. It is important to safeguard the team from this by setting up a system of routine meetings, and team rules to where people have a chance to discuss and solve potential problems in an open unbiased forum.
As I develop my team I am looking for the challenges and norms that the forming, storming and norming stages of team development will possibly experience. The focus of this theory is to become a more effective team. Following through with these stages we can become an effective team, however the challenges and norms we will face normally most teams go through. Starting out with forming my team we will face a few challenges as we begin orienting ourselves and becoming familiar with each other. With different personalities coming together there may be some biased perceptions that may cloud the members ' judgement of one another. A challenge that we face has to do with different aspects of each member 's personality, skills and setting the terms as to what needs to happen when making decisions as a team. This first stage is crucial because of the manner of getting to know who you will be working with and recognizing everyone 's goals to see if you all fit together; it is like building a puzzle. However excruciating this may sound, creative minds can sometimes make great decisions and other times can bump heads and unfortunately waste time when trying to make decisions to accomplish the work. The storming stage is where some conflict begins to arise in the team as we look for solutions. There will be confrontation as the team members will look at themselves as individuals versus
Working in teams provides an opportunity for individuals to come together and establish a rapport towards others within a group. Teamwork is classified as people with different strengths and skills who work together to achieve a common goal. When a team works well, specific objectives are fulfilled and satisfied. Teamwork plays a crucial role in implementing and fulfilling a common goal in a team project. Each member plays a role and takes on different responsibilities combined together. In different stages of teamwork, conflicts and arguments may occur for as members have different standpoints which need to be harmonized within the team. The key to having an effective teamwork is to explore each member's unique abilities to motivate them.
To start off on the right path, the team must understand what they are working towards. They must be committed to work hard in order to accomplish their goals. Each member should have expectations from everyone and themselves as part of the team.
