“Somewhere in America there’s a child holding a copy of The Catcher in the Rye and there is a child holding a gun. But only one of these things has been banned by their state government, and its not the one that can rip through flesh. It’s the one that says “F*** you” in more pages than one” (YOUTHSPEAKS). This poem perfectly explains the essence behind the collections of ads named “Choose One”, of the way the government has provided safety for children of all ages.This advertisement campaign urges people to realize what is really dangerous to our society and the future of the youth. And according to Everytown Research, in average, about 7 children/teens are killed every day due to gun related activities (Gun Violence by the Numbers). We hear on the news about all these tragic events, Aurora, Orlando, San Bernardino, Columbine, Sandy Hook. It doesn't matter where you find yourself, at the movie theater or at school, your life could always be threatened by a gun.. This ongoing war has caught the attention of thousands of people that have had their loved ones taken away so soon, or the ones that experienced an attempt on their life and were lucky enough to survive. This is technically correct because the second amendment has given Americans the right to bear arms, which made sense at the time the Constitution was written, but it’s now a new era. A look at other countries gun murder rates will show that America’s gun murder rate is more than 25 times the average of other developed countries ( Gun Violence by the Numbers). Perhaps it’s unconstitutional to completely ban guns, but a logical answer would be to make it harder for a person to purchase a gun than it is now. Overall the Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America’s ad perfectly portraits the message intended. For the government to stop pretending to care about children's’ safety while they allow guns around them. America’s cities need to stop being just another hashtag to pray for, we need to prevent the 12,000 gun murders that happen a year.
