A museum is the popular place for many people who want to learn something new or spend some time outside of their routine life. I visited some museums in Sacramento but I never been in the “California Museum” which includes “California Museum of History” and “Women and Arts”. Therefore, I decide to visit this place which is located in downtown, one block from the State Capitol on the cross of 10th and O St. The location of this museum is very convenient and it is not hard to find it even if you go there first time. I decide to visit the museum with my family because I love to spend some time with them together. For four people I paid $28 for tickets, including student’s discount. The weather was sunny and we decided to park our car two blocks
The Tampa Museum of Art was not always the same museum that we see today. It went through multiple stages throughout the years. The works vary, creating a large spectrum from the old to the new. The social angles change with the exhibits in the museum, combining to create the diversity we see today. Visiting this museum in person helped me to appreciate it even more than I would have thought possible. Observing and analyzing the other visitors helped me to understand the museum’s impact on the community more than I would have been able to just by reading about it. This museum is much different from others than I have visited.
George Gustav Heye Center - The Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian is a fascinating building at the Bowling Green area of Lower Manhattan. It’s close to Battery Park that displays an elegant view of the water. You can see ferries floating by headed towards Staten Island, since South Ferry Terminal is nearby. It allows you to appreciate the hidden gems of the city located in the outskirts Manhattan. One of those very treasures is the museum mentioned previously.

Imagine pondering into a reconstruction of reality through only the visual sense. Without tasting, smelling, touching, or hearing, it may be hard to find oneself in an alternate universe through a piece of art work, which was the artist’s intended purpose. The eyes serve a much higher purpose than to view an object, the absorptions of electromagnetic waves allows for one to endeavor on a journey and enter a world of no limitation. During the 15th century, specifically the Early Renaissance, Flemish altarpieces swept Europe with their strong attention to details. Works of altarpieces were able to encompass significant details that the audience may typically only pay a cursory glance. The size of altarpieces was its most obvious feat but also its most important. Artists, such as Jan van Eyck, Melchior Broederlam, and Robert Campin, contributed to the vast growth of the Early Renaissance by enhancing visual effects with the use of pious symbols. Jan van Eyck embodied the “rebirth” later labeled as the Renaissance by employing his method of oils at such a level that he was once credited for being the inventor of oil painting. Although van Eyck, Broederlam, and Campin each contributed to the rise of the Early Renaissance, van Eyck’s altarpiece Adoration of the Mystic Lamb epitomized the artworks produced during this time period by vividly incorporating symbols to reconstruct the teachings of Christianity.
The museum I attended was “National Museum of the American Indian” (The George Gustav Heye Center.) This historical center offered a superlative perspective of the social legacy of the Native Americas. There were displays that present famous items chose for their aesthetic quality and power as emblems of Native beliefs. My experience in this museum was very quiet and lonely, but I made the best out of it. When first entering the museum, I was lost as to how I would be able to connect any of the information to this class. It took me a while to get an understanding of how the information I collected could be relevant to this class. The concepts and theories I will be using to analyze my museum visit is race and ethnicity, commodification, theory of domination, and hegemony. The authors I will be using are Stephen Steinberg, Vine Deloria, Jr., Charles Fruehling Springwood, C Richard King, Harry Kitano, Nathan Glazer and Ronald Takaki.
Culture is defined as a pattern of behavior that is common within a particular population of people. We are all born into a culture, some different than others, but for the most part we all are a part of a familial culture. We express our culture within our families through traditions, roles, beliefs and at times even art. Cultural art has helped develop the mind and body, refine feelings, thoughts, and tastes to reflect and represent a cultures customs and what they believe in. I had the opportunity to visit the Bowers museum in Santa Ana, CA. which was a wonderful experience since I had little or no knowledge about the different types of culture in California. Architecture is the manifestation of many intangibles. The museums in Ontario such as the Royal Ontario Museum (the ROM) and the Art Gallery of Ontario (the AGO), both illustrate many intangible force – the vision of the architects, the ambition and hope of the clients, as well as the resolve of the community, etc. These two representatives of Ontario public institutions have both gone through transformation from the classic style to the contemporary one.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art came about as an idea from Jon Jay in Paris, France in 1866 with the idea of “national institution gallery of art” within the United States. Once this idea was proposed, it was immediately moved forward with his return to the United States. With the help of the Union League Club in NY they began to acquire civic leaders, businessmen, artists, and collectors who aided in the creation of the museum. For over 140 years, the visitors who go here have received everything the mission of the institution states.
In Stephen Weil’s essay, he argues “the museum’s role has transformed from one of mastery to one of service” (Weil, 196). According to him, museums have changed their mission from one that cultures the public to one that serves
The Golden Gate Bridge is a major tourist attraction in San Francisco, California. It is one of the longest suspension bridges in the world and it’s also the top suicide location in the world.The Golden Gate Bridge is a symbol of Northern California. The bridge serves as a means of transportation.
The Rotunda’s dome is 58 feet high with a skylight 20 feet across on top, which has been restored recently into a bright colored stained glass design. The museum had its first grand opening on November 6, 1913 and was called “The Los Angeles County Museum of History, Science, and Art. It was formally opened to the public. The museum was joined by other major cultural facilities in the park; the Memorial Coliseum, Sports Arena, Swimming Stadium, California Science Center, California African American Museum and the largest Municipal-Owned Rose Garden in the nation, with a beautiful water fountain in the center. As I walk into the museum onto the first level, there are many different halls surrounding.
A very important factor in the market is the price mechanism: affects both demand (people will want to take advantage of the merit goods – the museums), and supply (depending on the entrance fee or free admission, some museums could last longer or not at all on the market.) The public is easily attracted by incentives such as discounts for students and children and free admission for elders and the disabled. Incentives generate more visitor numbers. However, current demand for tickets is low compared to the optimum quantity, although the museums’ heritage and their tradition are considered to be of great value. The shortage in demand is mainly due to lower-class citizens’ incomes.
For our art history class, we got the opportunity to visit a museum to enhance our art knowledge or in a way test our knowledge on paintings. A couple of friends and I went to the De Young Museum in San Francisco. This museum had a lot of paintings from American artist, one of the few were the ones our professor talked about in class like Thomas Cole, John Singleton Copley, and Hiram Powers, to name a few. It was incredible to see the painting that were at museum were the ones known in class. It made me appreciate the class more, art was not just about looking at it but observing it and seeing what stories the artist was trying to portrait. As I walked in and looked around, I noticed how big it was and how many people there were. There was not only amazing art, but great views of Los Angeles, which I found really impressive as well. The work of art that caught my eye was Claude Monet’s oil painting Sunrise c. 1873. To its left was The Portail of Rouen Cathedral in Morning Light c. 1894 and to the right was Still Life with Flowers and Fruit c. 1869. The subject of the sea from Monet’s Sunrise I was able to associate it with, Hokouasi’s Thirty Six Views of Mount Fuji c. 1826-1833. The museum was a very fun experience, and finding a piece of art from our readings in class made the experience a lot more rewarding, because I was able to take what I learned in class and apply it outside of
