But each religion is based upon the teachings of a great man. When one compares the life of Buddha with the life of Jesus, one finds that the two share many things in common. Being raised as a Christian I never gave a thought to any of the other religions. Before visiting or learning about Buddhism I was sure Christianity had nothing in common with Buddhism. Christians believe that the only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ, who is the son of God, and the Buddhists believe that the only way to overcome the desire of the body is through the eightfold path which is the way to Nirvana. While Buddhists believe that suffering is brought about by our desires and humanity needs to overcome that by fighting to get rid of the craving of the body. Christians believe suffering is real and the only way to overcome that is to trust in God and through forgiveness we learn how to deal with our desire. In Christianity we believe that everything happens for a reason, mostly good ones. There is no other way to get rid of our desires. We pray and trust God to get us through whatever is happening.

I have always heard of the religion Buddhism, but I never knew what it was all about. I never thought that Buddhism was as huge as it is. I knew that it existed in other countries, but I never knew what exact countries. Many of the views in this book surprised me and the book taught me a lot about morals and better ways to live your life.

Therefore, the Buddhist ethical teaching contains principles and practices to help one to improve their behaviours to remove suffering in life. ‘Ethics is a system of moral principles’, it involves individuals and societies making moral decisions. Buddhist derive their ethical codes from the narrative, doctrine and experiential of the Buddha and followers. It is believed that Buddhist ethics emphasize the framework of virtues, deontology and consequentialism.

Though the modern concept of human rights is originated from the Western world, it is believed to be a universal principle regardless of cultures. Meanwhile, people particularly concern the compatibility of human rights and Confucianism, which has a long history and still exerts influences in East Asia. It also poses a question to whether a traditional thinking still has its values in the modern context.
From the moment we are born we have the tendency of craving the worldly desires that we are exposed to. Its part of human nature to want an ideal life where you are either wealthy, powerful, happy or all of the above without any suffering involved. Although that ideal sounds phenomenal, it is the thought of limitation that drives many people to seek for something more than just worldly pleasures. As some stay within the lines of an insatiable life, others come to the realization that living a life with nothing but worldly pleasures and goals are ultimately not everlasting. This is the point where people go on to pursue something bigger than themselves, something that gives them a purpose and infinite joy or as most would call it, a religion. One of the most fascinating major world religions that many have chosen to follow for centuries is Buddhism. A very complex, yet intriguing religion that seeks for a way of life that ultimately releases a person from suffering and leads them to inner peace and joy.
The foundations of the Four Noble Truths of Buddhism: “Life is filled with tension and anxiety. Desire or craving is the cause of tension and anxiety. The ceasing of desire and craving leads to the end of tension and anxiety. The way to bring about the end of tension and anxiety is through the practice of the Eightfold Path which leads to nirvana.” (2004, p. 328). To reach nirvana, the individual must practice the Eightfold Path that involves mindfulness, meditation, and the change of beliefs. The case example Hanna and Green used, involved multicultural school counselors introducing the value of calmness to students who have been convicted of a crime. Hanna and Green explain that school counselors can implement meditation and mindful awareness to guide students to reduce their stress and anxiety.
