Recommended: Buddhism and its principal

Buddha Buddha means `awakened one' someone who has awakened from the sleep of ignorance and sees things as they really are. Buddhas compassion, wisdom and power and completely beyond conception. Shakyamuni Shakya is the name of the royal family into which he was born. Buddha was born in Lumbini, Nepal. Died in Kushinagar, India. My hypothesis is that I will discover, that buddha is considered to be a significant person in history because he is godly and see what people think of him to be. My guided questions are what type of person was buddha and what made him this way?. Q2 How influential were buddhas ideas?. Is Buddhism a religion and what are the values. And did he become Buddha? I don’t have 4 I only have 3 guiding questions. Q2 There are many people considerable standing in western societies who are either Buddhists or who are sympathetic towards Buddhism. A statue of buddha with his hands rested gently in his lap and his compassionate smile reminds us of how to generate peace and love within ourselves. When we bow we express our gratitude to the Buddha for what his teachings have given us.     The lotus flowers surround Buddha and he also is sitting on a giant one. They are symbols that the Buddha is awakened almost as a sign of rebirth. There are lotus flowers that are not yet open representing that not all are yet enlightened and the lotuses that are fully bloomed representing full-enlightenment and self-awareness. Buddha sits in front of the Bodhi tree which literally means awakening or enlightenment. Behind the tree is a full moon and in Buddhism has a great significance. The Buddha was born on a full moon day and his enlightenment was also during a full moon. The Buddha also has earth touching mudra. Mudra is the religious hand gestures and earth touching is “calling the earth to witness”. These concepts go back to the Four Noble Truths. They are the truth of suffering, the truth of the cause of suffering, the truth of the end of suffering, and the truth of the path that leads to the end of suffering. The fist noble truth is represented by the temptresses and the flaming arrows sent from Mara. After the temptresses did not seduce Buddha Mara sent flaming arrows from all directions towards the Buddha representing that all of life’s sufferings. This artwork shows the second noble truth by Buddha avoiding the temptresses that Mara sent and in this way Buddha avoided having cravings or desires. By not submitting to those desires and cravings Buddha realized that this is the ending all suffering is to remove all desire, ill will and ignorance therefore completing the third noble truth.     Time does not exist; love is eternal; death brings peace. Siddhartha illustrates each of these themes in the novel, Siddhartha. Throughout his life, Siddhartha is very independent. For example, Siddhartha demonstrates self-determination when he leaves his overbearing father “to begin the life of the Samanas” (Hesse 10). There, he escapes from the physical world to soon realize that enlightenment cannot come from ignoring the world around him. He decides to follow the Buddha and learn his teachings; however, he is unsuccessful. As Siddhartha goes through his unaccompanied journey towards Enlightenment, he comes to realize that he must let his loved ones go and “that each man must find the way by himself” (Malthaner 3). Foolishly, he falls for a young prostitute named Kamala; once they grow old the love dies and Siddhartha leaves. Siddhartha comprehends the fact that in order to grasp Enlightenment, one must love everything rather than possess individualistic love. After leaving Kamala, Siddhartha falls into depression. At this time he feels empty and saddened by what he perceives to be wasted time. Upon reaching a river, he leans in to take his life. Suddenly, the holy “om” brings him to his senses, and he remembers that Enlightenment is more important than death. Furthermore, he recognizes that time does not exist, and that he must become completely empty to start a new life—this concept plays in to the theme “mortality”. Kamala later returns to Siddhartha’s life by coincidence; she gets bitten by a deadly snake and passes away. Surprisingly, Siddhartha’s heart does not feel sorrow. This sculpture has a halo-type structure around the head of the Buddha and he is seated on an elevated surface. I believe that by placing the Buddha on this surface it then emphasizes his holiness and his importance to and in the community. One main feature that the Seated Buddha holds is the fact that he is seated in the lotus position, which ultimately was done to support the concept of peacefulness and calmness. The man has his right-hand open resting on his knee with his palm facing up. By doing this, I believe that the artist is showing the concept of openness and the idea of the Buddha figure being welcoming to others. The Seated Buddha is depicted with his eyes shut and a smile on his face. To me, this is showing that one can be happy regardless of what they can and cannot see and that you do not have to observe something in order to be happy.
