On Monday, August 6, 1945, the United States of America dropped the first ever Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. Then, three days later on Thursday, August 9, 1945, the United States dropped a second Atomic Bomb on Nagasaki, Japan. Approximately 110,000 military and civilians were killed. The fortunate ones died instantly while the others died from radiation sickness, burns, infections and malnutrition. (Capio) However, this did not constitute the only casualties caused by the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Many more lives were lost due to medical complications and disease such as various forms of cancers that spread throughout the bodies of the survivors and their children caused by the radiation of the Atomic Bombs. I remember reading about the vast number of people killed and the survivors also known as Hibakusha, the utter destruction and devastation of both cities, and the aftermath that followed even after the war. However, I have also read about the brutality exhibited by the Japanese not only to the Allied Forces but also to its neighbors in Asia, like the 670,000 Koreans who were forced into slavery to work in the Japanese factories and the females who were forced to be comfort women for the Japanese soldiers. (United States) Then there was the torture and medical experimentation on prisoners of war. The death marches starting with Sandakan Death March, which led to the death of 2,345 allied prisoners of war, The Bataan Death March that killed approximately 10,000 Filipino and U.S. soldiers. The Japanese were known for their ferocity and callousness towards its opponents, as was evident during the battle of Okinawa, approximately 46,000 allied soldiers were killed and roughly 110,000 Japanese defenders or approximately 94%
