The institution is a society or organization founded for a religious education, social, or similar purpose. A Streetcar Named Desire is about family and friends who lives in New Orleans. With the main character Blanche DuBois an insecure, dislocated individual that’s just desires happiness. But guilt, depression, and lying broke Blanche away from her friends and family. By the end of the play everyone was against her and wanted her to go away into an asylum. The first reason is lying that cause Blanche to go insane. Blanche is like the boy who cried wolf, she kept lying and lying. Blanche’s little sister Stella is always by her side an always gets protected by Blanche. Blanche husband, Allan Grey caused her to build up so much guilt overtime. Allan Grey was Blanche husband until he committed suicide by shooting himself in the head. A quote I found said by Blanche was “Deliberate cruelty is not forgivable. It is the one unforgivable thing in my opinion and it is the one thing of which I have never, never been guilty.” (p. 152) Blanche may be deluded about a lot of things, but she is lucid and strong on this point. She lies and cheats and steals, but never to hurt anyone. Best of anyone she loves, and believe them incapable of cruelty. She is, unfortunately, unable to make this dream a reality. That’s why Blanche felt like it was all her fault that he killed himself. The third and last reason why Blanche is insane, got sent to the institution is from depression. Blanche been through a lot for example her husband is dead, slept with lots of men to feel good about herself, and was raped and abused by Stanley but unfortunately no believed her when she told everyone. A quote I found said by Mitch was “You’re not clean enough to bring in the house with my mother.” (p. 150) Mitch is a good friend with everyone and is a young man that used to have feelings for Blanche but found out about her past from Stanley.
