"To be the best you must be able to handle the worst" (Wilson Kanadi). There are many situations that can test a person or group of people's abilities to survive. Bethany Hamilton, got her arm bit off by a shark. Hyeonseo Lee, escaped Noth Korea and Aron Ralston got his hand stuck in between two canyons. These are all people who are able to stay strong in spite of difficulty. For a person to be a survivor it takes mental fitness, perseverance and courage. Initially, Mental fitness is a key trait that one must have in order to survive any situation. Bethany Hamilton states in Young Surfer Girl Tells Tale of Shark Attack that " I think I figured out that, like if I panicked then things wouldn’t go as good as if I was calm." Even though Hamiltons situation was horrendous, she made the best out of it by having a healthy and positive mindset. Mental fitness allowed Hamilton to handle the hardship thrown at her, which was losing one of her arms. Even today she continues to stay strong and continue to surf. Without having one of the key traits of survival Hamilton would have not stayed calm and the situation could have turned into something worse. …show more content…

Hyeonseo Lee in "My Escape from North Korea" stated that she hid her identity for 10 whole years after she escaped, she then went back to North Korea to start a new life again. Lee went back to North Korea to get back her family. Lees family was caught and Lee was almost caught too. Lee continued to move on and help others and also help her family escape from misery. Lees perseverance helped her and her family meet up again and connect. Carrying the trait of perseverance made Lee able to see her family after 14 years of determination, strength and not giving
