Manufacturers of mouthwashes say that their products kill bacteria and clinics have been recommending the use of mouthwash for decades and is said to significantly improve gingival health [1] . I am very interested in these claims stating how effective mouthwashes are and I would like to find out the importance of the products in our daily lives demonstrated in my experiment. Mouthwashes play a very important role in preventing plaque formation and also it reduces cavities and a gum disease known as periodontal disease. Oral bacteria have a narrow pH range of 5.5 to 8 [7], yet citric acid has a low pH of 2.2 [8], hence making the product antibacterial. I have high expectations for this product because usually, natural products seem to work very effectively and efficiently than commercial, man-made products. Such as soap products for example, commercial soap products have ingredients which are sometimes harmful and usually natural products have ingredients which are good and healthy for the skin[12].
Another mouthwash will be boots smile breath spray which sole purpose is to only make your mouth smell nice as it is a cosmetic mouthwash. This is boots® branded, hence it is not a very popular mouthwash to use.
Another product is boots smile antiseptic mouthwash which is also from boots, this mouthwash is different to the other mouthwashes due to its antiseptic properties; this product contains alcohol which is said to cause a burning feeling in the mouth. Unlike the breath spray it is meant for killing
