Baseball, Basketball, and Hockey are like English, Spanish, and Italian. Different places in the world understand different sports and different languages. With a world so diverse it is hard to find something that everyone can understand. Most Americans have never heard of the International System of Units, while most Africans have never heard of hockey. Nothing is more universal than soccer (more commonly known as fútbol). Soccer is more popular than Catholicism and Islam, combined. Not only is soccer the most popular sport in the world, it is also the best. Soccer is the best due to the accessibility, diversity, and unity. Many people in the world cannot afford to buy a car, rent an apartment, or eat every day. The average NFL player is 6’1”, 245 lbs. The average American male is 5’9”, 195 lbs. and the average American female is 5’3”, 162 lbs. A US citizen is usually taller and heavier than an average person in the world, making the size difference between a regular person and an NFL player even greater. A 195 lbs. male could have all the athleticism that one could desire, but if he is not physically gifted there is no chance that he could make an NFL team. The average English Premier League soccer player is 5’10” and 163 lbs. Soccer players resemble the average person much more than an NFL player. This is why so many people enjoy soccer. One does not need a specific body type to excel, one can be 120 lbs. or 240 lbs. Soccer welcomes all races and colors. It is much easier for the average person to relate to a soccer player than an athlete of any other sport. The average NBA player is 6’6”, 9” taller than the average man. The NBA is also 74.4% African American and 23.3% Caucasian. This excludes most of the world, only 11 countries have more than 10 players represented in the NBA. In the English Premier League there are 105 nations represented across all of the teams and this does not even include the other four major soccer leagues. Soccer can be played by anybody. Those in a wheelchair, without sight, and even those without legs. A soccer player cannot be easily identified in a crowd because they look like the average person.
