Baltimore Maryland is a city known for its charm also known as charm city. The nickname Charm city originated in 1975 by HL Mencken who died in 1956. It is home to the Orioles, Ravens, and to the National Aquarium which show cases thousands of marine creatures.
Baltimore is also very rich in American history. This beautiful harbor city is home to fort McHenry and during the war of 1812 against England, American forces based in fort McHenry successfully defended Baltimore harbor against the British. The brave and valiant defense of the fort also inspired Francis Scott key to write the stars spangles banner. While Baltimore has an area of only 92 square miles, it is full of many different, historical markers. Not only did Fort McHenry (a small place in Baltimore) defend the harbor during the war of 1812, but it is also the place where the star spangled banner originated; which would eventually become the US national anthem. In relation to military history, Baltimore also houses the USS Constellation which happens to be the only ship from the Civil War that is still sitting above the water. …show more content…

Baltimore just so happens to be home to the very first American Railroad; there is even a museum based around the railroad and its importance (Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum).As we become a more modernized country, it’s often that people forget the simplicity and importance of art and religion. Baltimore is the place where the first cathedral in the US came into existence; it is called “The Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary”.
