Ever wanted to just sit down, watch TV, and laugh your butt off? Well The Middle would be the perfect show do just so. It is about the Heck family struggling financially with a lot of chaos amidst the family. In the family there are three children, Axl, Sue, and Brick. They all have very different personalities, yet all somehow manage to connect to teenagers today. The Middle accurately portrays teenagers of the entire spectrum as it shows how every end of the spectrum behaves, whether it is an athlete, a nerd, or somewhere in the middle. Charlie McDermott plays Axl Heck. In seasons one through four, Axl Heck is an athletic teenager who isn’t bright. She is the average child in terms of athleticism and academics. According to Sue, she is “I'm not super-smart like Brick. I'm not an athlete like Axl. I mean, yeah, I-I've made a couple of teams, but I don't know if you know this. Some of them I made by accident. I am just right in the middle” (“The Optimist”). Many teens can relate to Sue, as she is well rounded. She has made sports teams, has decent grades, and is an overall likeable character. Sue also makes many mistakes in her life. In fact, even her name is a mistake. Her legal name is Sue Sue Heck, as her dad, Mike, accidentally wrote her first name down twice on her birth certificate. At least she didn’t marry Darren, an old boyfriend, as her name would then be Sue Sue McGrew. The thing about Sue is that she always bounces right back from her setbacks. For instance, Sue tried out for the Volleyball team and literally crashed through the floor after diving for the ball. Instead of letting this discourage her, she was enthusiastic as she made the team. Sue told her parents that the coach “must have been super impressed with how well I bounced back” (“the jump”). In reality the coach did not want Sue’s parents to sue the school, but Sue didn’t care, she was just excited to make the team. Sue is a realistically portrayed teenager as she represents teens who are enthusiastic and outgoing. The Middle shows how every teenager behaves, whether it is an athlete, nerd, or somewhere right in the middle. Axl Heck resembles the stereotypical athlete, as he is very brawny but much weaker in academics. Brick Heck is the nerd, who acts like the average nerd as he always has his head stuck in a book. Then Sue Heck corresponds to anyone who considers themselves to be somewhere in the middle. The Middle is a TV show that shows how teenagers really act through chaos and disorder, can you imagine how you would feel if you were inside this TV
